The Abattoir Murders was a metal band from Charleroi, Pennsylvania, who formed in late 2002.
At the beginning the band was called The Robot Hum (band). Guitarists Matthew Hornfeck and Alex Drizos met Joshua Bakaitus of Charleroi, Pennsylvania through mutual friends. The three began practicing together in Bakaitus' basement experimenting with music along the lines of Saetia (band), Pittsburgh's The Ezekial (band), and The Locust (band). Immediately following Bakaitus' entry to the band he introduced to Drizos and Hornfeck, Anthony Lazzari of Charleroi, Pennsylvania to fill the position as full time singer. After month's of drummer searching the four stumbled upon Jesse Meredith formerly of The Ezekial to fill the spot. Jesse lasted in the band for a little over one month.
In 2003 the band picked up drummer Paul Georgulis formerly of The Victory Year (band) who would remain the bands steady drummer until August of 2004 when Georgulis left the band to pursue his interest in religion. Around that time is when Matt Hornfeck left the band also to pursue his schooling. Although it had been attempted many times, the second guitarist spot was never filled after Matt's departure. On August 28, 2004 The Abattoir Murders played an acoustic set in Charleroi, PA at the Charleroi VFW with Fear Before The March of Flames. This event is when the band met their final drummer, Jon Collins. At that time Collins was playing drums with the now defunct There Were Many of Bentleyville, Pennsylvania. Shortly after Jon's entry to the band he was forced to leave There Were Many which would settle to become bad blood between both bands for years.
On October 16, 2004 Collins played his first show with The Abattoir Murders. The band then was able to truly portray the sound that they always dreampt of. In 2006, The Abattoir Murders put out their only record which was released on Bridgeport Entertainment. "Masada", the bands first and final effort was recorded by legendary Pittsburgh engineer, Eric Klinger of Pro Pain and Built Upon Frustration. To celebrate the release of their new record, The Abattoir Murders shared a CD Release show with another Pittsburgh based band Running From Romance to a crowd of 550 people. Although the album was highly anticipated, it sold an embarrassingly low amount of copies. Two months after the bands CD release show they played their final show in May 2006 in their hometown of Charleroi, Pennsylvania to a crowd of sixty people.
Currently each band member is working on something different. Bakaitus is working on a career as a talent buyer and his new clothing line, MOOV, while Drizos joined Pittsburgh based pop rock band Isadora and then moved to Hollywood, CA and is currently playing with a brand new band called Only The Young. Lazzari as well as Collins are playing in a new project called Casluhim.
Throughout their lifespan, The Abattoir Murders were able to share many one-offs with bands such as As I Lay Dying, Zao, August Burns Red, Himsa, Circle Takes The Square, The Bled, Saosin, Between The Buried And Me, The Red Chord, Darkest Hour, The Acacia Strain, Comeback Kid, Matchbook Romance, See You Next Tuesday, Drowningman, The Minor Times, The Number 12 Looks Like You, Fear Before The March of Flames, & Daughters!
