Stanislavsky, Constantin [kunstuntyEn' stunyislaf'-skE]
Stanislavsky, Constantin , 1863-1938, Russian theatrical director, teacher, and actor, whose original name was Constantin Sergeyevich Alekseyev. He was cofounder with Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko of the Moscow Art Theater in 1898, which he would remain associated with for remainder of life. He also achieved renown as a director of opera. As a director, he stressed ensemble acting as well as complete coordination of all phases of production. His outstanding productions included many of the plays of Chekhov, in which he tried to strip away rhetorical cliches to enter the emotional core and complex psychology of the characters. Stanislavsky stressed the importance of the actor's inner identification with the character and the actor's natural use of body and voice. His training, now termed the Stanislavsky method, or "method" acting, had a vast influence on modern schools of acting. In New York City the Actors' Studio adapted many of his ideas to their use.
"The Method" was first popularized by the Group Theatre in New York City in the 1930s, and subsequently advanced by Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio in the 1940s and 50s. It was derived from Stanislavski's 'system', created by Constantin Stanislavski, who pioneered similar ideas in his quest for "theatrical truth." This was done through friendships with Russia's leading actors, collaborations with playwright Anton Chekhov, as well as his teachings, writings, and acting at the Moscow Art Theater (founded in 1897).
Strasberg's students included many of America's most famous actors of the latter half of the 20th century, including Montgomery Clift, Marlon Brando, Vic Morrow, Paul Newman, Al Pacino, James Dean, Dustin Hoffman, Marilyn Monroe, Robert De Niro, Jane Fonda, Jack Nicholson, and many others.
In Stanislavski's 'system' the actor analyzes deeply the motivations and emotions of the character in order to personify him or her with psychological realism and emotional authenticity. However, using the Method, an actor recalls emotions or reactions from his or her own life and uses them to identify with the character being portrayed.
Teachers of "The Method"
Richard Boleslawski, actor, film director, founder of American Laboratory Theatre.
Michael Chekhov, actor, director, author. (His method, largely an outside-in approach and somewhat more "metaphysical," diverged from and converged back to Stanislavski's over the course of his career.)
Harold Clurman, director and critic.
Uta Hagen, actress, the author of Respect for Acting and Challenge for the Actor. (She emphasized "identity" and "substitution.")
Robert Lewis, cofounder of The Actors Studio and author of Method — or Madness?
Sanford Meisner, actor.
Lee Strasberg, director, actor, producer.

ABOUT J.T. WAGNER & THE ACTING FACTORY
BIO - Jennifer Wagner (or "JT" as she prefers to be called) has been involved in the Performing Arts for most of her life. Her father (the late Alex Toland) was a set designer for numerous Broadway productions. When Jennifer decided on acting as her career choice, it probably came as no surprise to friends and family. She studied Drama for three years at "The School of the Performing Arts". Later, she auditioned for the Lee Strasberg Theater. She was accepted after her second audition and chose the Stanislavski "method" of acting as her major. It was during this period in her life that she became a client of the Charnoff Agency which provided her the opportunity to develop her craft in a professional capacity. The experience she gained through her studies at the Strasberg Theatre, frequent seminars at the Actor's Studio and the training she received from some of the legends of the theatre led to a teaching position at the Village East Workshop in NYC.
Presently, Ms. Wagner teaches in New York, where she LOVES The Acting Fatory and at the Weist-Barron-Ryan Acting Studio in Atlantic City. She also teaches privately in Southampton, NY. JT's theory, while based on Stanislavski, is rooted in the belief that the actor is an artist and she strives to help her students to become well-respected professionals (experts in human behavior). She is an instructor in Stanislavskis "METHOD" and in Chekov...Her classes are psychologically driven and primarily for the camera....
Along the way,JT has appeared in dozens of theatre productions. Among her stage credits, she is proud to list "Women Behind Bars", "Sweet Bird of Youth", "Orpheus Descending", and the "Effect of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds".
JT has been enjoying success in the film industry. She has just been offered and accepted the role of 'Gladys' in the soon to be released film production of John Connor's "The Parting Glass". She has also been given the role of 'Barbara' in the David Weintraub production of "Deadly Reprisal".
J.T. wishes to thank John Connor, Lee Strasberg, Geraldine Page, Shelly Winters, Irma Sandrey, and of course Ursula Ryan and Bob Macks.JT Loves to hang with her friends and have lunch outdoors in the summer ..Her dream guy..."Well Im not Looking but i know he exsits..He just hasnt found me yet" hehe...DIVAJT.
