2009..."A new formation, a new appoach - reigning in and reinterpreting the punk laughter that is 'My Right to Riches', belting out the caustic klang that is'Off' and lovingly relaying the sardonic pop of 'Ugly Ambition' - the new Aesthetics is a truly rarified incarnation of the original concept". ..
..
2008..." to keep the moronic in vogue, in focus. To apply our kollective learnings to the infantile and primitive ritual/release that is punk rock, to render the stupid the highest peak of aesthetic life, of life itself. To strip back the layers of self-deception and self-betrayal that is the everyday, the brattish hubub of late modern capitalism and , assisted by all types of poisons, brandish our musical weapons with ugly, stupid, turbulent simplicity.
We , the Aesthetics : obviously boys, stupid men, drunk, in trance, yelping and stuffing down food offerings, pissing profits away, we activate a new, deep subconcious stream and , through our group ritual, keep new zealand on it's feet. For if these artists, these madmen, were to be denied their right to performance, the cancer that is 'straight' new zealand society would metastasize exponentally.
'Real men', all hair-product and credit, would wake up one gray morning, pick up a bottle, and murder with android indifference.
We keep this country on it's feet.
We realize and heal these repressed subconcious collective evils bursting at the seams of the 'real world' through our music/ritual. All for no reward. Perhaps a strained, guilty half-smile from a city counsellor.
WE ROCK. WE ROCK ON. WE ROCK ON . ONWARD - INTO OUR 30S. OUR 4OS.
2005...."band started by Mat Middleton in Dunedin megaplex City 1995, with friends Jmz Robinson[tmai, notv] and russel coveney [currently lo-liners]..........with a noise rock aesthetic the aesthetes plundered their sound at SQUALLID parties, played sordid gis all over new zealand , changed line ups frequently, took too many pills and played with sonic youth in 1998, have gradually lost gear over the 11 years, now we have none of our own whatsoever. if we had RACKS/MARSALLS we'd fuggin TAKE OVER - but we stay humble - just to let you THINK we're useless. YOU JUST WAIT. YOU'LL SEE. YOU'LL SEE. THEN WE'LL BE THE ONES LAUGHIN. "

This is the first set from the slightly tweaked Beach Fuzz line-up with Fliss Horrocks now playing guitar alongside Tom Settle and Nick Mitchell. Seven tracks of clattering drums, chugging and wailing guitars, screaming keyboards, mellow, lilting pastoral improv and moaned vocals.

Recorded at The Bowling Green pub in Manchester on 17th November 2008, when Bridget was on tour with Marcia Bassett, this is a maximal 25-minute set of epic guitar brutalising and deep, moaned vocal incantations. Employing a bow and 'metal' effects pedals, the resulting cacophony is orchestral in scope, rendering almost unreliable the memory of one woman and her instrument. Somewhat akin to Bassett's duo with Matthew Bower, Hototogisu, the deeply layered tones created by Hayden offer, upon first exposure, a somewhat icy auditory experience, but as the recording settles in, the richness and sheer breadth of sound wraps around you like a feather quilt and shifts your perception almost 180 degrees. A truly magnificent set from this former Vibracathedral Orchestra member.
