Fe fydd Colli Tir, sengl newydd the Afternoons, ar gael fel lawrlwythiad ar y seithfed o Orffennaf.
The Afternoons return this week with a new single Colli Tir. This latest welsh language offering was recorded with producer Jon Thomas, and is available only as a download from iTunes.
Fifth album scheduled for release next year
Following a productive period of writing, the band have teamed up once again with legendary producer Greg Haver to begin work on their fifth album. Although several tracks have already been recorded, the album is not likely to be released until next spring. However, the band are planning to release a new single sometime in the Autumn.
Five friends bonded by a love of 60s pop, David Bowie and curry, formed the band in 1999. After a Radio 1 session in August 2000, their debut single, A Change in Season, was made one of the singles of the week in the NME. “A black and white film of a song,” they sighed. “It hurts so good…”
The band signed a deal with Cardiff indie FFVinyl and released the singles Calico (Nov 2000), Falling is Easy (Feb 2001), and the album The Days We Found in the Sun (Sept 2001). That summer, after a Time Out review of a London show they signed with Tokyo indie label Excellent, who subsequently released all their albums in Japan.
In September 2003 the band released their second album, My Lost City. In a four star review Drowned in Sound declared it “a skyward-gazing celebration of love… skewed and insanely catchy.” National monthlies Bang and Uncut also awarded the album four stars.
The following summer saw the release of the Fading Fast e.p., the title track of which was sung by Sub Pop’s Rosie Thomas. This was one of the songs written for the band’s third album Rocket Summer (June 2005). The album marked a poppier direction for the band, evoking their love of American FM pop as well as more contemporary guitar groups ("Dreamy, creamy pop laden with hooks" - NME). The album was well-received worldwide, particularly so amongst US pop fans and in Spain , where the record topped a number of end of year selections. In May 2007 Madrid label Rock Indiana released Baby, You Know the Deal: a selection of the Afternoons’ second and third albums.
The new album, Sweet Action (released March 10th 2008), is a continuation of the Afternoons’ quest for perfect pop; its title cemented by the discovery that it is also the name of a glossy German pornographic magazine for women.

...filigree and athmospheric electrosounds, combined with the charismatic vocals of the singer Nic Koray, all in all creating an extraordinarily melancholic and thought-provoking music having no equal...
"Somewhere On The Line is the best debut album in the widened Trip-Hop-Genre since Goldfrapps legendary Felt Mountain" (Zillo Magazine 03/09)
We have some new music on our space. On the regular player you can find our new demo that we are currently sending out to record companies. Also, we have posted some semi-live recordings on the boom box/cassette recorder that you can see there. We would love to get your opinion!
"Rocket Summer" is among the best records of the 2000s in its vision, songs, rendering of songs: a true masterpiece. "Sweet Action" picks up where "Rocket Summer" left off. Can't wait for the next one and the next and the next....

Hi Richard, I have just listened to the new Gwawr song, and it's fantastic, lovely! I hope I can receive the new cd-single soon, so that I can review it in my fanzine.
Hi Guys, I just wanted to say thanks for last Thursday night (21/08/2008)in Newport. You and the Manics made it a great night. Hope to see you live again soon.
I've been enjoying the album for months, it was the B-side - Cindy, Pied besco I was asking about really, it's great too. I don't know, these downloads......I'm an old-skool collector, how am I gonna keep my Afternoons collection complete with a pile of MP3 files? I guess I'll have to give into technology sooner rather than later hehehe. Yes, you'll definitely have to record Gweld y golau, tis nice.
What a lovely week I've had watching you guys live twice (Cardiff and Newport). Is the Don't turn back single actually available as a physical CD single or download only? Where can I get that gweld y gollau track from?
