Central California native agent.X™ began as DJ AgentX back in 1986, using tape
decks and turntables to create long instrumental mixes long before touching a
4-track. After buying a drum machine in '88, "it was all over with", he says.
" I dropped the DJ from in front of my name because I wasn't really DJing
anywhere, it just looked good plus most people just called me 'agent'
anyways", he explains. After figuring out what a producer is, that was the road he took.
"Most of my folks had turntables and DJing and making money from it. I chose
to get my skills up in my bedroom lab undercover", he says laughing.
"Dividing my time running the streets, making music, and life period, over
the years I've evolved slowly", he adds. "My beats were long and raw, you
couldn't really rap on them, just listen to them. I finally learned to shape
my sound to what I wanted. I should be better, but I'm making up for lost
time ".
With an off and on relationship with music over the years, agentX's style has
evolved from raw extended hip-hop mixes into drama filled blends of underground rap, R&B,
reggae, and sounds from around the world, setting the stage for mental
visuals usually cinematic.
Whether creating all original music or remixing, agent pushes the boundaries
on what hardcore street music is, straight raw.
