pronounced "uh (like the 'uh' sound in 'UP') ka (like the 'Kah' sound in 'CAR')
Ne (like the 'Neigh' sound in 'NEIGHBOR') and then S (the 'Z' sound in 'CATS')
If you still don't get it, that's kindof a huge bummer for me...
"Akane" is Japanese and it means "Crimson" essentially and for us its a direct reference to the name of a gnarly heroine from the anime "Ranma 1/2." So I basically took a random name, pluralized it and made it fun and slightly nonsensical. I hold on to the name because it "Sounds Original" according to friends. I'm telling you this 'cuz I might just lose it if I hear "Tonight! Give it up for the Ah-CANEs!"
So far in our music career we have managed to open for Alkaline Trio, Killola, The Action Design, The Randies, The Rainman Suite, Played a cover of "Blood Red Summer" with the actual Mic Todd of Coheed and Cambria, supported numerous touring acts, have organized minitours, have recorded and produced albums and EPs, and have the continued support of our friends in Lawrence KS that allows us to keep doing what we do. not. too. shabby.
Pop punk may be dead, but The Akanes aren't smart enough to care.

Im doing open mikes soon & then I'll take it from there. Thats what happened in Calif. I actually got paying gigs from the exposure. I miss playing live.

Yo Emo, Thanks for checking in on us, no matter what it says about your mental health! We'll let you know as soon as we get it nailed down on the release dates, but we'd definitely like to come through Lawrence again this winter once the record is out. Just wanted to let you know that we are playing a chilled out acoustic set at Main Street Cafe next Sunday July 5th. We're playing there with another awesome rock band on Tooth and Nail called Secret and Whisper. Come hang out. Should be a fun time.
