The Albany Throws. A five piece folk based indie band hailing from all over the shop. We have been together now for a long while and have in our time been proud of our songwriting and write what we consider to be honest stories of our experiences and these times. Always up for a laugh, come and say hello at any of our gigs and you can buy us a pint as we are usually skint. Nice one.
Oh yeh. We released our debut single under a small London based label. It got us to No. 4 in the charts up here in the North-west.
Here's the pitch........
The single "I STILL REMEMBER/DOGS OF WAR" sees the band collaborate with legendary writer/producer PETE BROWN, author of a number of huge selling hits released by CREAM, including "Sunshine Of Your Love", "I Feel Free" and "White Room". Pete has also written hits for Belinda Carlisle and David Bowie and his songs feature in major film soundtracks such as "True Lies" and "Good-Fellas".
The Albany Throws have finished recording their new E.P. 'F.T.S.E' recorded at the wonderful Blueprint Studios. They have in their time together built a solid loyal live following, selling out venues such as the Sugarmill in Stoke and the Roadhouse in Manchester.
"I Still Remember" is a song inspired by 'The Band' and was received well both here and ver the water creating a real buzz for the band. It is backed by a brilliant ballad "Dogs Of War" which reflects the attitudes of World leaders today. Incidentally Pete Brown is to use "Dogs Of War" as part of a film soundtrack he is currently writing.
REVIEW, THE ROADHOUSE 5TH FEB 2009.- www.manchestermusic.co.uk
'In complete contrast THE ALBANY THROWS have one of the best male indie / folk singers to front their happy-to-be-MOR sound. The tunes aim for the popular vote, but achieve reams of sanguine melodies and broken down love songs that celebrate the slower moments of The Charlatans and the spine tingling melodic peaks of The Waterboys. The Albany Throws command plenty of respect, for the fact that they’re really just hunting for the perfect ballad. They may well have found it more than just once too in this song list. The set closer is a thrilling, stomping stadium pleaser with 'hit single' written all over it. An unusual name, but some very familiar, accessible stuff that could do them very well indeed'
