A group of friends having a great time playing our best versions of tunes that we like, some of them popular, some of them somewhat obscure. Usually with good results
Hailing from Marlborough, the members of The Allens started in the local music scene playing any and every high school, nightclub, and concert gig they could find. From Worcester to Boston, including legendary clubs like the Rat, the Channel, Bunratty's, Paradise, and Sir Morgan's Cove as well as many other bars in the New England area, members of The Allens have shared a stage with Jesse Malin, The Romantics, Neighborhoods, Extreme, Farrenheit, and members of the Joe Perry Project. Paying their dues in other bands, the boys in The Allens always had a friendly camaraderie and appreciation for each others' playing.
The real story of The Allens, however, begins with Kats' wedding in November of 1988. Kats wanted to take over the stage at his wedding and play a few songs. The band got together for a rehearsal to get seven songs together. After playing some forty-odd songs and a great deal of fun, the band finally chose a few to do. It was decided that perhaps a gig or two might be in order. Since that time, The Allens have played every local club in the area as well as the Marlborough Festivals and charitable benefits.
