Usually, when people decide to form a band, the instruments are selected and the players stick to them. Not so with Norman's up and coming The Allies.
The trio, featuring Natalie Howard and Chance Flato on guitar/drums/vocals and Dan Whiteneck on bass/keys, delights in switching instruments mid-set and sharing songwriting duties. They're an allied front, playing up-tempo, structured, catchy chord-rock.

The Allies
They began with Flato on drums. The Allies played power pop with hints of Blondie and T-Rex on a modern indie rock futon. Howard's vocals belie her petite size. She stood up like a tsunami.
Whiteneck's rock star stage presence and road warrior hooks were right on. Flato redeployed to guitar, brandishing another weapon in The Allies' arsenal. His rotation with Howard was smooth.
The Allies have an appeal that's in no small part related to their enthusiasm and obviously warm band relationship. The best dogs were digging it which brought the audience in like bees to trumpet vine.
"Take it off!" a guy in the audience hollered when Howard moved back to guitar. Quite rightly, she only kicked off pointy black shoes.
