The Amaury began in May 2005 when drummer Derek Broomhead and bassist Collin Rocker joined lead singer and lyricist Mark Sandman and guitarist Corey Mastrangelo and together began working to create original music with a sound all their own. With the addition of second guitarist Chad Cook in early 2006, The Amaury is stronger and tighter than ever.
Although young, these musicians have the talent and presence of bands with far more years of experience. They draw in their audiences with an excitement and energy that makes fans keep coming back for more.
By the end of their first month playing together, The Amaury had won first place in the Charter Day Battle of the Bands in New Jersey, competing against ten bands older and more experienced than they. Soon recognized as an up and coming talent on the local music scene, The Amaury began appearing at venues including The Stone Pony, Hamilton Street Cafe, CBGB's and Bloomfield Avenue Cafe. Most recently they have had return appearances at Starland Ballroom, and performed in NYC at The Knitting Factory, R & R and The Annex. In addition, the band always makes time for local events and fundraisers.
In August 2006, the Amaury won first prize in the Jersey Shows Battle of the Bands held at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ. Over a five-month period of time, they competed against 253 bands to win the title. Jersey Shows presented the band with an extensive prize package including cash, a promo package, studio time and a spot at Warped Tour 2007.
This past fall, MTV2 filmed The Amaury's set at CBGBs in NYC during The Meany Festival and interviewed the band after the show. The footage is expected to air on MTV2 in connection with their new EP release.
An extremely focused and motivated group of musicians, The Amaury is also deeply committed to supporting Rock the Earth, an environmental non-profit organization. They donate a portion of all their proceeds to this charity.
Each member of the band adds his own unique style to The Amaury’s original compositions. Corey Mastrangelo's hardcore influences showcases Chad Cook's more classic style guitar licks perfectly. At the heart of the band is Derek Broomhead, whose driving energy, passionate playing, and brilliant talent on drums creates the foundation for the entire band. Collin Rocker, who studies with bass legend Jack Casady of Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna fame and Mike Visceglia, long-time bassist for Suzanne Vega, creates complex and soulful bass lines that complete one of the best rhythm sections in any young band performing today. Mark Sandman leads The Amaury with his range of vocal styles and an ability to draw the audience into their performance. With their intense breakdowns, powerful rhythms, and well thought lyrics, The Amaury puts on a show that is not to be missed.
The Amaury recently completed a new EP, produced by Zak Soulam and Mike Visceglia, and they continue to work on new material.
