The story of The Amber Light began at the start of the 21st century, when Louis Gabbiani, Jan Sydow and Rabin Dasgupta got together to develop their own music. They came up with their debut album, “Goodbye to Dusk Farewell to Dawn”, which saw the light of day in spring 2004. The songs were praised by critics and audience alike and brought the young band a lot of attention on the scene. Following countless club gigs, the band’s fan community continued to grow, and 2005 was marked by the arrival of the EP, “Stranger & Strangers”, which featured a 15-minute title track and revealed a focus on compositions with more straightforward arrangements.
During studio recordings and live shows, the band was complemented by Robert Fischer on drums.
The Amber Light embarked on extensive tours of Germany, France, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg and performed shows alongside a wide range of acts, such as Archive, New Model Army, The Posies, Marillion, and Wir sind Helden.
Their support slot got The Amber Light the attention of Wir sind Helden guitarist Jean-Michel Tourette, who was so impressed that he spontaneously decided to work on the production of the band’s new material together with Jens Nickel.
The brand-new album “Play” was mixed by Patrik “EL Pattino” Majer (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Tele, Wir sind Helden) at Berlin’s Freudenhaus Studios.
The recording allows dreamily melancholy lyrics to flow within an atmospherically interwoven, electrifying sonic tapestry, The Amber Light always sounding multi-faceted from minimalist, crackling, fragile sound spots to mounting, monumental sonic thunderstorms.
Sounds a little complicated? Despite occasionally intricate arrangements, The Amber Lights never lose sight of their songs and consistently stick to the leitmotif in everything they do - which is what makes their music uniquely experienceable and worth listening to.
So perhaps the result is simply pop music of the more adventurous kind? This could be the simplest and most objective characterisation of their music, rather than losing yourself in that vast jungle of definitions and pigeonholes.
The album “Play” is due out on Superball Music as a limited first edition in a lavish digipack on April 25th 2008.

Die Geschichte der Band beginnt Anfang des 21. Jahrhunderts, als sich Louis Gabbiani, Jan Sydow und Rabin Dasgupta erstmals zusammenfinden, um gemeinsam Songs zu entwickeln. Es entsteht das Debütalbum „Goodbye to Dusk Farewell to Dawn“, welches im Frühjahr 2004 erscheint. Die Songs werden von Kritikern und Publikum gleichermaßen gelobt und bringen der noch jungen Band viel Aufmerksamkeit in Szenekreisen. Nach etlichen Konzerten in Clubs und einer stetig wachsenden Fangemeinde, erscheint im Jahr darauf die EP "Stranger & Strangers", die neben dem 15minütigen Titelstück bereits eine Besinnung auf geradliniger arrangierte Kompositionen erkennen lässt.
Bei Studioarbeiten und Liveaufritten wird die Band von Robert Fischer am Schlagzeug komplettiert. The Amber Light gehen auf ausgedehnte Tour durch Deutschland, Frankreich, Polen, Holland, Belgien und Luxemburg und spielen diverse Shows mit so unterschiedlichen Bands wie Archive, New Model Army, The Posies, Marillion oder Wir sind Helden. Durch den Support für Wir sind Helden wird deren Gitarrist Jean-Michel Tourette auf die Band aufmerksam und ist so begeistert, dass er spontan beschließt, gemeinsam mit Jens Nickel (bei 5 Songs auch Mischer) an der Produktion von neuem Songmaterial der Band mitzuwirken.
Das vorliegende brandneue Album „Play“ wurde von Patrik "EL Pattino" Majer (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Tele, Wir sind Helden) im Berliner Freudenhaus Studio gemischt. Hier fließen verträumt melancholische Texte in einen elektrifizierend atmosphärisch verwobenen Soundteppich. The Amber Light klingen dabei stets facettenreich: von minimalistisch, knisternden fragilen Klangtupfern bis hin zu auftürmenden, monumentalen Soundgewittern.
Klingt kompliziert? Trotz teilweise verschachtelter Arrangements verlieren The Amber Light nie den Blick für den Song und behalten konsequent den roten Faden in allem was sie tun fest in der Hand. Genau das macht ihre Musik gleichsam hörenswert und einzigartig erlebbar. Vielleicht also einfach nur Popmusik der experimentierfreudigen Art? Womöglich die einfachste und objektivste Beschreibung ihrer Musik, bevor man sich endgültig in der Weite des Dschungels aus Definitionen und Schubladen verläuft.
Das Album „Play“ erscheint am 25.04.2008 auf Superball Music als limitierte Erstauflage im hochwertigen Digipack.
