The Amplifires gave a powerpop performance at an outdoor gig in Matlock park.
Families were treated to a mix of punk, rock and blues from the Matlock four-piece, at the live music event in Hall Leys on Sunday
This year they wanted to do something a bit different.

I'd just like to say thanks on behalf of all the Kings Heath Northampton RA committee for The Amplifires turning up on time, looking good and doing a really professional performance, and helping to create a lively atmosphere. I hope you folks enjoyed your playing as much as we and the local residents enjoyed watching and listening. Personally, I found it great to meet you all, and I hope we can get you back down here sometime. We'll certainly recommend you locally,

.The Amplifires history starts in late 2005 when David Brunt bought a guitar case from Steve Rawlinson via ebay and, after realising that Steve was just a couple of miles away, went to collect it. Steve was looking to form another band as was David so with shared musical interests - two pieces of the jigsaw in place!
Meanwhile Steve already knew Sharon Clancy and her musical background. An opportunity had arisen earlier to play guitar in Sharon's presence and memorably the sound of Blondie's 'Call Me' guitar riff was quickly accompanied by Sharon's voice. Another piece of the jigsaw in place.
Original drummer Ted Morris knew Steve from The Boat Inn in Cromford where they were trying to realise and sell plans to run a live music club for new, young bands to the owners - this would become Band Explosion. Co-incidentally, aside from his profession as a sound and lighting engineer, Ted also played drums for another local band. Yet another piece of the jigsaw in place.
All four pieces got into the same room around September 2005 and a gig at the Boat Inn quickly ensued on 22nd October 2005. Professional commitments have slowed down their sonic assault but October 2006 sees The Amplifires poised and ready to rock. Ted, due to outside commitments left the band in September 2007. Ruth Dobson joined the band as drummer and played her first gig at The Red Lion on the 4th October 2007. Now looking to get the band moving forward again after great recent gigs in Chesterfield and Nottingham in 2009. Looking to build upon our solid foundations, if you're looking for a band then look no further.
Just returned from a tour of the USA, Pennsylvania and New York rock, and we'd like to thank all the great people over in Bath, Pittsburgh and Potsdam
