The AMPs is an effectively bilingual band that comprises of five members, all hailing from musically rich backgrounds. Founded by regionally well-established producer/songwriter/guitarist Eric Ng (Huang Yun Ren), the AMPs lead vocal duties are handled by both Ngak, a charismatic singer/songwriter/guitarist with a strong stage presence coupled with a unique full-bodied vocal tone, and producer/singer/songwriter/keyboardist Jim Lim (who used to be part of Dreamz FM). The line up is completed by bassist Clement Yang Xi and drummer Brandon Khoo, both much sought after gigging/session musicians in their own right. With their chemistry strengthened by their brotherhood and friendship, the AMPs set out to create a unique hard rocking sound fused with strong infectious hooks (backed by the chart-topping songwriting experience of Eric Ng and Jim Lim). Songs written by the band border around sensitive heartfelt ballads to full on rock out stadium sized anthems.
FM Album "There's still me" "你还有个我"
Local indie record company, Funkie Monkies (FM) Productions latest album release (tentative date of release 26th June 2009) consists of songs by FM’s band, the AMPs, Wu JiaHui, as well as renowned music producer Jim Lim.
A brand new song was specially written for the Down Syndrome Association (DSA). This song will be performed and sang by four DJs from MediaCorp radio station Y.E.S. 93.3FM, like Lin Pei Fen, Cai Wei Bin, Xiao Jia Hui, Ivy Tan and FM’s artistes. All royalties earned from the sales of this particular song will be donated to DSA.
This album is also dubbed as The AMPs ‘unofficial debut album release’ as there are more than 10 unreleased tracks recorded by the band. Tracks include MediaCorp Channel 8 prime time drama theme songs “Anticipation” and “Comfort Zone” (From ‘The Dream-catchers’), “Fire” and “Defrost” (From “Defining Moment” last year, starring Fann Wong).
Also featured are song demos written by renowned music producer/singer/songwriter Jim Lim (songwriter behind popular hit songs by A-listers like A*Mei, Stefanie Sun and Fish Leong), Ngak Ng and Wu Jiahui for other regional artistes. These demoes are performed in original form by the songwriters themselves!
As a value added bonus to complete the package, the album will include popular hit songs that made FM proud in the last two years. These include Wu Jiahui’s “Although I’m Willing”, a duet version of “One Half” with FM’s Malaysian artiste Meisim, “Black May” and “Replacement” from local director Royston Tan’s hit movie <881>, as well as “One Million” and “Royal Flush” from the movie <12 Lotus>.
Let these popular hits lift your spirits in bad times as such.
