In 2000 Andre Camilleri moved from Malta to Australia, where he continues to follow his musical ambitions. Having served his apprenticeship playing the streets of Berlin and Malta’s capital Valletta, wearing his trademark cowboy hat, his world is one of nostalgic reflections, acute and often intimate observations, tales of heartbreak and disaffection, with the occasional dash of youthful optimism. Expect a rich blend of blues and country flavoured tunes covering a diverse range of material: happy and sad songs, songs about booze, loose women, favourite horses, heartbreak, being on the road, social commentary, more drinking songs, more heartbreak, and a peculiar obsession with trains. His band the Broken Hearts is currently receiving ample air play on ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), RRR, PBS Radio and numerous international stations. The band performed two headline shows at the prestigious Melbourne Arts Festival (October 19, 20 2007) and is recording a second album CD, which is due to be in early 2009 . The Broken Hearts are Paul Thomas (Weddings, Parties, Anything) on steel guitar, James Stewart (Overnight Jones, T-Bones) on lead guitar and Clark Fisher on bass and Big Dave Folly (Suzannah Espie, Chris Wilson) on drums. The Broken Hearts first album CD 'One Fine Day & Other Songs' is available on this site and distributed in Australia by Sound Vault Records.

And this is what significant others had to say:Dave Dawson, Beat magazine: Melbourne’s Andre Camilleri has dipped deep in to the stone country template for his first album with the Broken Hearts… It’s hard to listen to ‘Sad Old Clown’ without thinking of Smoky Robinson’s 1970’s hit, but he didn’t have the Best Whorehouse in Texas stage show player Mitchell playing on his tune!”
Phil Knipe, Radio KLFM: “It's the sort of stuff I like to present - neither super schmaltz (a la Charlie Landsborough et al) nor faux contemporary Nashville like so much Australian C&W. Thanks for the decent music.”
Kristy Edmunds, Melbourne Arts Festival: “And again, I really enjoyed the music.”

Howdy Andre, we're pleased to be invited back to play our swampy hillbilly country blues at our favourite venue, THE DRUNKEN POET, 65 Peel Street West Melbourne. Opposite the Queen Victoria Market is where you'll find, not only the best Irish bar in Melbourne, but one of the best roots music venues in this fair town. Always a friendly, happy. and appreciative clientele as well. The date is Sunday August 2nd from 6:30pm; two mighty sets, (or three if demanded!) and admission as always is free. If'n you get there early you can catch one of Australia's most accomplished musicians, the critically acclaimed guitarist Nick Charles. Nick will be performing from 4pm. A great day indeed! We'll have copies of our "Long Playing Record" CD, a 21 song salute for only $10 also!
