the androgynous androids first formed in 2005 as part of the electroclash band ROBOTexclamationpoint! backing up boston singer nathan leigh. the band recorded one single; idiot says terrorist with a cover of crass' systematic death as a b-side. they played a few shows around town, but broke up when nathan quit the band to restart a thousand ships in the summer of 2006.
in the fall of 2006 roger juliana and norman decided to continue playing together without nathan under the name the androgynous androids. roger and norman now share vocal duties and the band has moved away from their electroclash roots towards a more straightforward punk sound.
since 2006 the androgynous androids have played at almost every venue in boston including o'briens, all asia, pa's lounge, the abbey, tt the bear's, and the bullfinch yacht club. in the summer of 2007 they left on a successful self-booked tour of the midwest and the east coast playing clubs bars basements and halls.
during the winter of 2008 the androgynous androids completed their debut full length titled the hang nail to be released independently with assistance from former band-mate nathan leigh's keroscene records.
