To say the world of punk rock suffers from the worst scenarios of scene politicing in the history of recorded music is an understatement. Still, there are some bands out there operating in this form whose sole objective remains to get their listeners shakin' and having a good time. Count the Angel Sluts amongst those outfits who haven't lost sight of the "fun" aspect of playing music. It certainly aids in making this Hot Teen Action EP one of the most refreshing slabs to come down the pike in some time.
The Angel Sluts sound is a balance of pure rock n' roll and hard rock bombast, with the punk of the Dead Boys, Heartbreakers, and Stooges as the pendulum point it all swings on. This listen is snotty as all get out but a sense of arena scale demolition is always there looming in the background. Resinators fans, take note--Hot Teen Action is definitely for you.
Over the course of the four songs on this EP, the Angel Sluts dish it out just the way you'd hope for. Tempo-wise, things stay about the same throughout, providing a unifying thread for the entire listen--though subtelties are tweaked enough from song to song that things never get boring. With its "woah-oh-oh" chorus and a nice, albeit brief, exhibition of dynamic grasp durning the bridge, "5 And Dime" certainly stands out as one of the disc's best tracks. So too does the EP's closer "Chalmette Girl In The CIA." The sparest cut of the bunch, this one is fueled by its throbbing bass run, the guitar eventually entering with whole note blasts, then giving way to a sinister grinding riff.
If you're fed up with some of the "too cool for the room" attitudes floating around these days, Hot Teen Action is almost a lock to be the party you've been waiting for. Unrelenting, caustic, and above all else fun. The Angel Sluts are masters of please flash your boobies, ma'am punk rock n' roll. Pressed on classy white vinyl. A definite keeper.

...middle of the road lo fi...not bad actually...hold on, this mother fucker is starting to Really rock me!!!!!!Especially the song "5 and Dime"!!!!!! Side two is now up and it's already groovy...just like dog breath on my cock!!!! Good hooks...the "no fi" vocal sound works good on this hunk of dick cheese....also, these guys have gotta get extra brownie-points for being a truly ungly fucking band...!!!! What city spat this into our faces???? Memphis????
THE COMMERCIAL APPEAL:- A vinyl 7" by the Angel Sluts, Hot Teen Action- clocks in at 12 minutes but the sonic stain will linger long after(not to mention, peel the paint right off your neighbor's house). On such classic-sounding numbers as "5 and Dime" and "Chalmette Girl in the CIA," the Bluff City four-piece rivals the Dead Boys for iconic punk, though they also sneak in a keen subtext of pop craft, from the use of Jack Ashford-worthy tamborine to infectious hand claps. Wear this one out.
