MARK LANE “THE ANTI-TECH TESTAMENT 1981-1985”
    24-song 2xCD Digipak (ECD-0306)
    Editions Mark Lane/ U.S.A. 2006

“The Anti-Tech Testament” offers the first collective view into Mr. Lane’s innovative work of the early 80’s. Ranging from the stark minimal pieces of the early days to the lush productions from the “Who’s Really Listening?” era, the two disc set contains an amazing selection of interesting and provocative electronic music jewels that engage the listener on its very own awkward, quirky and eclectic platform. Impossible to ignore the historical importance one is transported in a time machine to the earliest days of discovery.
The 2XCD 24-song Digipak package will please long time followers as an addendum to their collections as it contains many rare as well as previously unavailable on CD tracks, thus nullifying the urgency of hunting down those by now impossible to find compilations. As for the new listener, the release will act as an essential beginners listening guide to Mark Lane.

** Online magazine Heathen Harvest says"...it acts as a document of the times and is an invaluable release for those interested in the beginnings of the electronic music genre." To read the rest of their rave review please click here

    MARK LANE “INNER MOST FOLDS”
Special Limited Edition (500 numbered copies)
    4-song CD-EP (ECD-0106)
    Editions Mark Lane/ U.S.A. 2006

Drawing upon diverse sources that range from erudite to industrial musics, two unusual bookend instrumentals counter balance two fantastic vocal tracks. Beginning with the orchestral song "Inner Most Folds" this CD-EP confirms a minimal electronic music sensibility that has reached across two and half decades. Easily regarded as introductory in nature because of “philharmonic” tendencies, the title track fulfills its mission to lie down an under painting (backdrop) for the three remaining compositions.
First up is “The Wealth of Experience,” a "Bowie-esque" synthpop groove that dares one to become intimate with its world music references and serene vision. Laced with a fat analogue bass synthesizer the track has a sensual mesmerizing momentum that acts as a vehicle for the vintage crooning, exquisite envelope treatments and Joy Division-like strings.
In contrast "Halcyon Sentimental' harkens back to the androgynous robotic-like beginnings of the genre. Its infectious simple “simple” beat urges a climbing and descending rhythm sequencer that propels the song across a landscape of synthetic wonders and vocals that often seem like they are from the days when Marlene Dietrich was in her prime.
The whole effort comes to a conclusion with the minimal-techno finale “Elephant.” More than just a sequencer driven black pop workout, the composition builds to a crescendo that ultimately ends in one of Lane’s anthemic Moog solos. While certainly homage to “progressive rock,” the track stays deeply rooted in a minimalist foundation.
Beautifully packaged in a full color card stock mini-jacket, “Inner Most Folds” is out now.

MARK LANE 7" SOLD OUT

    MARK LANE “ELEPHANT/ ATOMIUM”
Special Limited Edition (300 numbered copies)
    2-song 7” 45rpm (E7S-0206)
    Editions Mark Lane/ U.S.A. 2006

“Elephant is the first Mark Lane vinyl single since the “Live with The Klinik” “Male Nymph” promotional over 20 years ago in 1986. Sure to satiate vinyl and electro freaks everywhere, it is also the first single from Mr. Lane to contain two instrumentals. The version of “Elephant” here is a stripped down bare bones “minimal mix” different than the CD EP rendition. The flipside”Atomium” is a dark brooding non CD track. Sometimes sounding like film soundtrack it meanders in and out of itself by riding the distortion inherent in the structural arppegiator. Seemingly slipping out over the edge, it reliably rescues itself by returning to its beautiful ‘melodica.’

** The Mark Lane "Elephant/Atomium" (limited edition of 300) 7" vinyl single has sold out. It is no longer available from Editions Mark Lane. A special thanks is extended to all the loyal supporters that bought copies via mail order. Thank you for making this a special 25th music anniversary.

ARTIST MARTHA WILCOX CREATES VIDEO USING "ATOMIUM"

Southern California multimedia artist Martha Wilcox has created a stop animation video using Mark Lane's "Atomium." Aptly titled "Atomium" the video uses a morphing set of drawings and photographic clip art images choreographed to the music to create a bizarre visual ballet that is both provocative and compelling. Wilcox is is an up coming artist that has recently shown her work in Portland, San Francisco, Long Beach, and Palm Springs. View the results of this collaboration below. BIO

Going back to the early dawn of the new wave and punk movements, Mark Lane began his electronic music and tape splicing experiments in 1980. His first release in 1981 was a vinyl 7” entitled “Love is So Aggravating.” Although it was well received, it was the release of his 1984 mini-LP entitled “Who’s Really Listening?” that garnered him critical acclaim and cemented his place historically as one of the early pioneers of gothic industrial minimal electronic synthpop. Tracks like “Sojourn” and “White Glove” still rank very high among djs and aficionados of this era and have become standards of the genre.
During 1985 Mr. Lane made a short tour of the Netherlands with the founding members of the Klinik who were then touring their first record. Those shows and their recordings are still remembered as an innovative and important chapter in the history of the Belgian electronic music scene.
Additionally Lane collaborated with a large number of European musicians of the era including Martin Bowes of Attrition, Andy Szava-Kovats of Data-Bank-A, Guy Van Miegan of Vomito Negro, Richard Van Dellen of De Fabriek, Peter Van Vliet of Mekanik Kommando, Conrad Schnitzler of Tangerine Dream and Kluster, and many more.
In the mid 90’s Mark Lane released two CD-EPs “Black Lipstick” and “Shadow Merger” which in essence are sister recordings that link his past work to the present. Now at the height of his ardent analogue minimal wave style he celebrates his 25th music anniversary with three new releases, and continues to produce electronic music through a third decade.
