The Anywheres only have a handful of rules when it comes to the band. They would like to share a few with you.
1. WWKD?
What would Kiedis do? As in Anthony Kiedis, lead singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. His autobiography, "Scar Tissue," is sadly the only book that all three of the Anywheres have read. Anthony Kiedis' decision making skills have become something of a moral compass for the Anywheres.
2. Keep 'wanking' to a minimum.
Get your mind out of the gutter! "Wanking" is a term the Anywheres use for playing self-indulgent solos. This rule was made after Frank earned the dubious nickname of "Wanky Franky" for his antics in practice.
3. They must title a song before the end of the day of its debut at practice.
This rule was enacted to avoid confusion between songs (i.e. "I think we should play that new song." "Which new song?" "The one that goes 'danana danananana." "Huh?") This led to some interesting titles, however:
"Puntual" - Jimmy was half an hour late to that practice. This song was named after what he is not and will never be.
"Lube" - Tom spotted a receipt on the passenger side floor of Frank's car. Frank swears it was for an oil change.
"LoDuca" - named after former New York Met, Paul LoDuca, after lining a double in his first at bat of a game at Shea back in '06. The song title's destiny was to be named after the first Met to hit in the game. Jose Reyes eat your heart out.
"End on the Six" - The song ends on a "1-2-3-4-5-6" count.
"Rocket Fuel" - stolen from a Newsday headline after it was reported that Roger Clemens supposedly took steroids. We consequently decided to take steroids before each time we play this song live.
4. "Jose before we play."
If you're a bartender and you know that the Anywheres are playing in your establishment on a given night, keep a bottle of Jose Cuervo handy until approximately two minutes before their scheduled set time.
From Good Times' CD Review of The Anywheres:
"Eschewing the area's typical, sad hair rock proclivities, Barile and company perform songs of personal observation and deep emotion, and use actual melody instead of relying on hot licks. The end result is as smooth and refreshing as the 60-degree days we've had lately. Make no mistake: The Anywheres are already better than some of the regional acts that signed to national indies of late. Hopefully, they'll slip this demo under the doors of some offices – we're waiting for the press release any second now. The Anywheres are not just any band; this is an band with a real future, performing real music." - Syl Nathan
