The Archiver is on a lifelong quest to preserve his bloodline's rich heritage. He's collected home movies from anyone and everyone connected to his family line. From his Great, Great Grandmother to his Third Cousin, Twice Removed, he is the keeper of the family's history.
Most people find him odd. He is certainly misunderstood by many. His is a seemingly simplistic, some would say "useless" life; But it is, nonetheless important. Being obsessed with collecting, categorizing and viewing his extended family's home movies has given The Archiver much wisdom, and an uncanny sense of foresight in regard to his bloodline's future.
The Archiver is growing old. Sitting alone most days, viewing the films and restructuring his methods of categorization all these years has lead him to a deeper understanding and appreciation of his call. He's seen it at work at different times in his life: He remembers, one evening, a visit from his nephew, who was at a loss for direction concerning a topic that's hard for him to recall the specifics of now. No matter. The memory that remains in The Archiver's mind has nothing at all to do with the subject matter that evening. What he remembers so vividly from the encounter, is the manner in which his spirit opened up and poured forth the wisdom built on years of learning from his family's films. His Nephew left that night with a full heart... and a fiercely bold spirit, again intact. It was then that The Archiver realized- He's not simply saving his family's history. He is saving his family!
Still, his efforts are looked upon by most as pointless, if not, innocuous. He realized years ago that his legacy will not be fully understood or appreciated until he leaves this planet. When that occurs, another member of the family will appear among the film canisters to take up the call of saving his family through knowledge and wisdom.
He's a simple man. Through his common works, uncommon things can and do happen. He is not unlike humankind. Each being has a place and call. And when that call is appreciated and answered to, the family can be saved.
"How remarkable, that I, a lone being of ordinary talent, would have the privilege-in-call of playing the role of gatekeeper to a bit of history. It is in that, I have found the extraordinary."
