The Art Of Colonoscopy existed in Boise, Idaho from May 2001 to April 2006. The band was founded by Joe Doherty, Jon Michael Doherty and Cory Wright. Ian Morton played 2nd guitar from April 2003 to July 2004. Jim Toweill was the lead vocalist from January to July 2004. Jamie LaRose was the lead vocalist from May 2005 to the end. Bryce Kresge played 2nd guitar from August 2005 to the end. We played 65 shows, all of which transpired in the Boise area, except one in Twin Falls, Idaho.
We started as kind of a fast punk band that just discovered blast beats, and realized that barely anyone in Boise was playing them. So we just started to play faster and faster. Eventually band members started listening to different kinds of music, which led to diverging and competing visions for the band, which led to arguments, which led to a break-up. Later we reformed the band, but the only way we could ever get any material written was by working together from scratch on each song, which was a long torturous process. Playing shows was always great, but writing songs was pure drudgery. As a result we went weeks on end without practicing, ensuring a slow painful death for the band.
We talked with a few bands over the years about splitting a record. The Knifeswitch, My Sexy Assassin, and Murder And The Media Machine all expressed interest. Sorry to all those dudes for our flakiness.
As individuals we've always advocated participation by females in extreme music and lamented the lack thereof. (Playing with Lesser Of Two and their killer bassist/vocalist Kelly early on made quite an impression on us.) In early 2003 we decided to seek out a second guitarist. Before we settled on Ian, we tried out a 15-year-old girl named Aly. She lasted one practice with us and we never saw her again. A couple years later we were looking for a vocalist and were able to get Jamie into the mix, so we were happy to have accomplished that at least.
Amazing show last, super inspiring. Thank you for every show we shared and every jam we jammed. It's like having a cousin die. Though, I learned with Adversives, never say never. Rock on AOC.
Bloody and raw thrash! Never thought I'd say it but I want to see you guys . . . play. I think.
There's a guy here who resembles you very much Joe. In body and mind. He also has a brother who again looks like you. You might want to see if they aren't you're long lost relatives.
