About me:
The Art of Making Music is: renowned professional photographer Andrew Wallach ...................................................................................................................... ........................................................... Wallach was introduced to the local, independent music scene in my area in July of 1995 and began photographing it in Jan.1997. Andrew shot mostly only LIVE concerts on colour film, and began exhibiting his work in local galleries and fine coffee houses around the state. The live images he was capturing seemed to invoke his idols (Neil Preston, Michael Putland, Pennie Smith, Neil Zlowzer, Bob Gruen, Ross Halfin and Joe Sia) ................................................................................................................................................................................. Andrew won numerous awards in juried exhibits(probably because his concert photos stuck out like soar thumbs), he had his most prized image published in Shutterbug magazine in Aug. 2001. Wallach was hired to photograph many major concert festivals in the state and was hire as house photographer for the newly constructed 10,000 seat Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport CT. Andrew quickly ended his time there due to the lack of APPRECIATION! These major recording artists as well as the arena itself didn't seem to care that he was photographing them. Unlike the local, unsigned and independent bands and musicians, they cared that Andrew was giving them high quality prints that they could use for CD's and posters, and t- shirts etc. ................................................................................................................................................................................. In 2004 Wallach decided to change the direction of his music photography. After studying a handful of his other music photographer idols(Jim Marshall, Linda McCartney, Elliott Landy, Gered Mankowitz, Ebet Roberts, Barry Wolman, Anton Corbijn and Joel Bernstein) as well as remembering the the images from the old record albums and posters he admired as a youngster. Andrew began his new venture of photographing the “behind the scenes” style of images of the independent music scene. Wallach began sitting in and photographing them during band rehearsals, in the studio while recording sessions were going on, hanging out in the dressing rooms photographing before and after live performances as well as including some of the candid out take shots that were snapped during a band promo photo shoot. Wallach noticed early on that his own images he was producing were resembling the iconic images of his idols ............................................................................................................... .......................................................... In Jan. of 2006 Andrew began the aptly titled The Art of Making Music: Voices of the Unheard as a project This documentary will advocate for supporting local, unsigned and independent bands/musicians from every corner of the globe. Though many of these great unsung (yet SO sung) heroes that will adorn the pages of this BOOK are from the Connecticut area, the Book itself will NOT be about the Connecticut music scene. The artist who are photographically involved in this book will REPRESENT for EVERY local, unsigned and independent musician there is in the WORLD, whether they are just learning how to play a musical instrument, if they are forming a garage band, trying to get signed to a major record label or WERE signed to a major label or just enjoy touring the coffee house circuit as well as the seasoned musician who just likes to pick up the instrument at home while relaxing on the couch............................................................................................................................................................................ So that's where it all began, as Wallach is enjoying himself sitting in on recording sessions watching a notebook of chicken scratched lyrics turn into a fully produced CD, and witnessing a young band flourish to supper stardom is such an amazing sight, and I am capturing it on FILM!. Andrew says that this is his own way of giving back to ALL the talented musicians that have given him the chance to truly find what his own talent is. For if these musicians did not do what they love doing, Andrew may never have found what it is that he truly enjoys. ........................................................... Andrew Wallch says that with out this myspace.com, he would NEVER have known of millions of great bands and musicians ALL OVER THE WORLD!! Through myspace.com Andrew has found so much wonderful music of many, many different styles and genres and has been turned on to music that he NEVER even thought he would enjoy. Andrew says, thank you Eric Lichter. ....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... “The greatest musical artists are the one’s you’ll never hear”Who I'd like to meet:

MIDTOWN DICKENS - Midtown Dickens began as a ragtag, learn-while-you-play duo of best friends Kym Register and Catherine Edgerton. The project was born in the post-industrial blues town of Durham, NC when the pair began collecting orphaned instruments from generous friends and back alley dumpsters. Eager to include more friends in the project, the pair rallied a DIT (Do-It-Together) front-porch collective of players who shared instruments such as the banjo, accordion, musical saw, trumpet, trombone, guitar, drums, mandolin, upright bass, harmonica, glockenspiel, spoons, and whatever else was lying around. The group entered the studio last spring with acclaimed producer Scott Solter (The Mountain Goats, Pattern is Movement, John Vanderslice) to record "Lanterns", a record about letting go of the things we think we need.
