Within a short life span of 37 years only Jean-Nicholas-Arthur Rimbaud (born 10-20-1854, died 11-10-1892) created a wealth of poetic and autobiographical texts which were at the same time unique and extraordinary for their times … and still are nowadays. The spectrum of his work embraces a range of emphatic intoxication all the way to shattering tragedy.
Arthur Rimbaud’s style has influenced a great many artists throughout the times and still does, more than one century after his death. The majority of his contemporaries saw him as a maverick and rebel and appreciated only little of his ingenuity. But today he is recognized as a visionary, one of the first advocates of free verse style, and a frontrunner of the surrealist movement.
The intensity and timeless emotional impact of Arthur Rimbaud’s writings turn his poems to perfect material for song lyrics. Thus, projects with the objective of creating songs based on his poems have been long predestinated.
In 1994 Hector Zazou created Sahara Blue, an album of twelve songs based on English translations of Rimbaud poetry. He did this with the help of artists like Bill Laswell, Dead Can Dance, John Cale, David Sylvian, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Tim Simenon.
In 2004 another group of inspired musicians, writers, and actors joined forces under the name ISCH ART in order to create a project with contemporary sounds with likewise ambitious objectives - this time not only by utilizing English, but also German translations as well as Arthur Rimbaud’s French originals.

In lediglich 37 Jahren eines Lebens, welches ein Spektrum von überschwenglich berauschend bis niederschmetternd tragisch umschloß, schuf Jean-Nicholas-Arthur Rimbaud (20.10.1854 - 10.11.1891) ein Gesamtwerk aus Poesie und autobiographischen Texten welche in seiner Zeit einzigartig und bahnbrechend waren... und es noch heute sind.
Arthur Rimbaud‘s Stil hat eine große Anzahl von Künstler(inne)n durch die Zeiten hindurch beeinflußt und tut dies noch immer über einem Jahrhundert nach seinem Tod. Wurde er von der Mehrheit der Gesellschaft seiner Ära als Außenseiter und Rebell angesehen und sein Genie nur von wenigen gewürdigt während er lebte, so wird Arthur Rimbaud heute als ein Visionär, einer der ersten Befürworter des freien Vers Stiles und als ein Vorläufer der Surrealisten anerkannt.
Die Intensität und die zeitlose emotionale Wirkung von Arthur Rimbaud‘s Werk machen seine Poesie zu den perfekten Song Lyrics. Ein Projekt das sich zum Ziel gesetzt hat Songs basierend auf einer Auswahl von Rimbaud‘s Gedichten zu komponieren war lange vorherbestimmt.
In 1994 produzierte Hector Zazou - zusammen mit Künstlern wie Bill Laswell, Dead Can Dance, John Cale, David Sylvian, Ryuichi Sakamoto und Tim Simenon - Sahara Blue, ein Album mit zwölf Songs basierend auf Englischen Übersetzungen von Rimbaud Gedichten.
In 2004 tat sich erneut eine begeisterte Gruppe von Musikern, Schriftstellern und Schauspielern unter dem Namen ISCH ART zusammen um ein ähnliches, genauso ambitioniertes Projekt mit zeitgemäßen Sounds in die Tat umzusetzen, dieses Mal nicht nur Englische sondern auch Deutsche Übersetzungen von Arthur Rimbaud Gedichten verwendend, ebenso wie Französische Originaltexte.

En 37 années d'une vie aventureuse et mouvementée qui s'achèvera par une fin tragique, Jean-Nicholas-Arthur Rimbaud (20.10.1854 - 10.11.1891) a créé une oeuvre poétique et autobiographique hors du commun qui étonna non seulement son temps....mais encore le notre.
L'oeuvre de Rimbaud a marqué non seulement ses contemporains mais aussi les nouvelles générations d'artistes et cela plus d'un siècle après sa mort! La plupart des gens de son milieu le tenait pour un rebelle et un marginal et seuls quelques uns ont détecté très tôt son génie. Aujourd'hui Arthur Rimbaud est considéré comme une visionnaire, un ardent défenseur de la prose et un précurseur des surréalistes.
Il était donc depuis longtemps prédit que des musiciens s'inspirent des textes de Rimbaud pour leur composition.
C'est ainsi qu'en 1994 Hector Zazou produit, en collaboration avec en autres Bill Laswell, Dead Can Dance, John Cale, David Sylvian, Ryuichi Sakamoto et Tim Simenon - Sahara Blue, un album de 12 chansons basé sur une traduction anglaise des poèmes de Rimbaud.
En 2004, le groupe de musiciens, d'écrivains et d'acteurs appelé ISCH ART a choisi de se lancer dans un projet tout aussi ambitieux en sélectionnant des poèmes aussi bien en traduction anglaise et allemande qu'en langue originale française.
