The Ascent

Bio:

The evolution of metal is as intricate as the evolution of life. Its genetic code is imprinted into thousands of different species, each traceable back down a common bloodline. And as this broader evolution has taken place, each new species has been an advancement of the last.

But every evolution produces mutation... beasts that are progressively engineered beyond that of their day.

Prototypes - with the sheer physical power of the earliest and most primal states, and the control, intellect and focus of the most advanced.

Described as exactly this, The Ascent are a prototype in truest sense: a band that can “recall four decades within a single track”, as The Mercury put it, because they are the mutant hybrid of everything that has come before them, up-to-date and evolved.

We can pin this creature to the table and vivisect it – opening it up to peek inside and see how the machine has improved itself.

Instantaneously, the music of The Ascent reveals the band’s complex and detailed makeup, splayed and sewn together with surgical precision on their stunning debut album, Inception Of Salvation.

From the driving guitar and vocal work of Chris Hurrell, to the lead playing of James Clarke, which is both state-of-the-art and steeped in tradition; the front-end of The Ascent is its melody, its intricacy and its dynamics. Below the surface, the bass playing of Alessio Ricciardi thickens and tightens the extraordinary drumming of Travis Kapor; both providing The Ascent with its solidity and attack.

A fittingly devastating album, Inception Of Salvation takes The Ascent’s detailed sound and gives it the singular force of a brick wall – producer Aidan Barton providing the Midas touch in bringing The Ascent’s punishing live sound to the album. With wave after wave of its onslaught separated by calm, eerie music passages; Inception Of Salvation travels like a tornado, destroying everything in its path and leaving behind a haunting silence.

As the first synopsis, Inception Of Salvation is The Ascent to its core... the meeting place of traditionalism and modernism. Music spawned by four decades of endless inspiration, re-imagined into a new, predatory sound.

In the evolution of metal, The Ascent are a band with strong ties to their ancestry, but new ideas on where their lineage can be taken.

A band that is part of the evolution, but has somehow mutated faster than its environment.

A prototype...

“Starting with the brutal simplicity of Sabbath, through old-school 1980s styles and the 1990s riffery popularised by Pantera, Metallica and Sepultura; The Ascent can recall four decades within a single track" - J.C. Walker (The Mercury)

“Full of both fresh modern sounds and plenty of old-school influences” - Rowland Gwynne (Iron Guardian Industries)

“The Ascent’s debut album carries with it striking maturity and strength” - Brendan Holben (X-Press Magazine)
