Sounds Like
"Despite picking out the opening slot of the heat this band set the standard for the night with their professionalism and glorious soundscape of tunes which you could dance to as well as listen to. They combine funk with Ska driven melodies and push in some pychadelic influences for good measure..."
YGG Unsigned, 2007
"Rather than just being another Indie band, this band offer people something a little different in their funky take on the music scene. They give the audience an uplift and an urge to dance, very listenable and cross over boundaries drawing people into their music..."
Tony H, Rockfest 24
Astroband formed in 2002. They are a four piece band comprising of Tom Duffy (drums/lead vocal), Stu baggaley (bass/vocal),Tom Jackson(keys) and Jim Lawley (guitar/vocal). All four members have been playing in bands in and around Manchester for many years.
It is hard to pin down the style of music that Astroband play. Their tight but loose jamming style hints backwards to the roots of their past, whilst keeping one eye firmly on the present with songs like ‘My Hell Above’, a raucous and catchy ska driven rocker. The eclectic leanings of Astroband are a result of the members experiences and influences.
Astroband were successful in reaching the final of Revolution F.M’s ‘The Next Big Thing’ competition in 2004. The judges on the night commented that their song ‘Too Soon’ would be a number one hit if it were released tomorrow.?The band have also had rave reviews of their song ‘My Hell Above’ with Revolution F.M’s Clint Boon describing it as a classic. Wythenshawe F.M. have also featured Astroband on several of their programmes. They have two television appearances to date, twice having been featured on Channel M .The group were finalists in the 2007 Young Gifted and Green competition
