The Atkinsons are a rockin' Americana band from Richmond, VA. Formed in the fall of 2003, their main focus was to write and perform their own brand of original music, as well as incorporate select cover songs that complement their roots rock style. Rooted in rock, touched by country, and rich in harmonies, The Atkinsons merge their signature sound with bittersweet tales of woe and heartbreak. Their originals are written with a hardcore honesty that chronicles America's lost and lonely souls and their life struggles and turmoil. Influences range from Whiskeytown, Old 97s and Son Volt - to Old Crow Medicine Show, The Avett Brothers and Scott Miller - to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Rolling Stones and Green Day.
The Atkinsons have released their debut CD entitled "American Gothic" and have received many great reviews. American Gothic is more than just an eleven-song compilation. It actually tells a story from start to finish. The first track introduces you to our nameless tragic hero. Throughout the CD you see him grow from a little boy to adulthood. And through a series of bad decisions and bad luck streaks, we eventually come to his death by the end of the CD. Although the lyrical content is dark, the music and melodies are upbeat. From country swing to straight-up rock, the mandolin and fiddle soaked songs keep your fingers snapping and toes tapping.
The Atkinsons were featured on the emmy-nominated series called The Music Seen on WCVE Richmond PBS. Videos of ATK performing live at The Canal Club in Richmond, VA can be viewed on band's website and on youtube. www.theatkinsons.us and www.youtube.com/theatkinsons.
The Atkinsons have shared the stage with many great bands such as Scott Miller and the Commonwealth, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Wrinkle Neck Mules, Jackass Flats, The Taters, Billy Ray Hatley and the Showdogs, Janet Martin Band, Moonshine Still, Sons of Bill, Sin City Revival, Susan Greenbaum, Modern Groove Syndicate, Jeff Black, Copper Sails, Moossa, Pennyshaker, and many others.

Hey guys, love to have as many fellow musicians and local bands as possible come and hang with us on thursday (we all know getting crowds on a Thursday can be dicey sometimes) at Cary Street Cafe. Definitely dig the music, and hope you can come. Hope all is well and keep rockin. Matt
