Following the critical acclaim of their second EP “Wish Lists and Sunken Lands”, The Autumn Isles return with the first single off their debut full length album “Kaleidoscopes”.
Recorded with multi award winning producer Shaun O’Callaghan (Eskimo Joe,
Gyroscope, John Butler), “Sun Soaked Horizon” displays the immediacy and dynamic the band has shared with the Perth music scene for the past 4 years. With an emphasis on driving choruses, rich melody and a nod to sixties pop and psychedelia, “Sun Soaked Horizon” opens the door to a very eclectic and bold debut album.
Based in Perth, Western Australia, The Autumn Isles arrived in 2006 with their
debut EP “A Beautiful Pantomime” which earned them a WAMI pop song of the
year nomination. 2007 and 2008 saw them receive another two WAMI song of
the year nominations for “Wish Lists & Sunken Lands” tracks “It’s Been a While” and "Murky Water".
The Autumn Isles formed in early 2005 to immediate local favour, with their
dynamic live performances and strong song writing ability, the band have
developed an impressive resume undertaking two eastern states tours and
having played support for the likes of Bob Evans, Josh Pyke, Idlewild, The
Subways, Architecture in Helsinki, Dappled Cities, Machine Translations,
Trashcan Sinatras, Dom Mariani of The Stems, Katie Noonan, Clare Bowditch,
Okkervil River and was included in the 2009 Southbound Festival line up.
REVIEWS
WISHLISTS AND SUNKEN LANDS."Once again that mysterious mineral that bestows music genius to whoever drinks it and is found only in the water of Perth has provided a band with the skills to deliver one of the most beautiful albums to come from an Australian band." - 4 1/2 stars. Dave Griffiths - Buzz Magazine
WISHLISTS AND SUNKEN LANDS."It's like a sunnier Panics with added You Am I swagger at times. In other words, it's not just good, it's fun."- Bernard Zuel -Sydney Morning Herald
WISHLISTS AND SUNKEN LANDS."Basically, all boxes are ticked with this little pearler."- Mike Wafer - Xpress Magazine
TOP TEN BANDS TO WATCH 2008."They are a truly promising band coming out of the continuously fruitful Perth music scene, definitely one of Australia's Bands to Watch."- Wireless Bollinger
SOUTHBOUND FESTIVAL 2009."In 2009, Sunset Events invited The Autumn Isles to play at the Southbound Festival on hearing their EP. The Autumn Isles were professional and proficient at openning the festival and setting the tone for excellent performances for the duration of the festival."- Andrew Chernov - Sunset Events
"Even more impressive tonight were The Autumn Isles. They played a very strong set of psychedelic indie rock tunes. Highlighted by their single "Beautiful Pantomime", which shows off Alex Arpino's knack for writting such simple sounding but brilliant tunes, easily got the biggest crowd response of the night" - Drum Media, (Dappled Cities Fly, Support) Rosemount Hotel.
"The Autumn Isles have some damn swinging tunes that just beg to be danced to. They come across as a very professional outfit, and its refreshing to hear such a clean and well organised sound. I locked onto drummer Russell Loasby. He plays like he was born on a drum stool, sticks in hand ready to rock and roll;pushes and chases the songs to great heights" - Faster Louder.com, (Dappled Cities Fly, Support) Rosemount Hotel.
"The Autumn Isles are the sort of band that make people nostalgic for a time they never actually lived in . The male lead and female backing vocals lent a dreamy The Mamas And Papas feel. Tight and airy, Autumn Isles have got it down pat." - Xpress Magazine, Josie Smith .
"A decent crowd stuck around to see the highlight of the evening The Autumn Isles. Despite the noisy and unappreciative Amps after 12 crowd imposing, the majority of the audience visibly enjoyed a super set from one of Perth's premier indie pop artists. This reviewer certainly did! The Autumn Isles have really come together as a band of late following some band member swapping around ; but last night has got to be one of their best sets ever . Beautiful mixtures of synth and percussive effects combined with Alex Arpino's inspired and immediatly catchy sing-along lyrics featured througout, in particular the memorable Beautiful Pantomime, If your love is blind and Murky Water early on. All the gems from their Beautiful Pantomine EP featured , the highlight a lingering and wonderfully fleshed out version of Its Been a While which was extremely impressive and well recieved at the close of the set. A wonderful end to another night or Perth indie pop speciality." - Fasterlouder.com.
Autumn Isles – The Autumn Isles presents A Beautiful Pantomime review.
"A debut release that is so exquisitely crafted and catchy its contents may necessitate an AVO. The songs are astute, mature and just brimming with trimmings ranging from sublime and subtle vocal melodies to chiming guitar hooks that just melt into your head. The songs crackle as warmly as an open fire and it’s no surprise to learn they received a nomination for the WAMi Pop Song of the Year with the title track ‘Beautiful Pantomime’ - Andy Ryan @ Kluster.com
