About me: Jonny D & Kenny K have been talking sports, music and even local politics every week since the very first episode over 9 years ago on Public Access Community Television (PACT-TV) in Duluth, Minnesota. *See blog for TV schedule.
In the summer of 1998 Jon Donahue asked long time friend Kenny Kalligher if he'd be interested in starting a TV show called "The Average Guys"..."Two average guys just sittin' around talking about sports in my basement". No, Kenny said, but Jon was convincing enough because Kenny always thought about getting involved with Public Access but wasn't sure what it was he wanted to produce. After completing the intro course at PACT Jon and Ken along with Jon's sister Kelly set a date, Saturday afternoon December 12th 1998 in Jonny D's basement the first episode was taped. Kenny brought along a previous Christmas gift from his Mom the "1998 World Almanac and Book of Facts", Jon chose to refer to the sports page of that day he even lit up a cigarette, twice. He stopped smoking on the program after hearing from his mother to..."Quit smoking on TV". It wasn't long and soon they were on their way to TV stardom in the Duluth-Superior market. Along the way Jon and Ken were named PACT's "1999 Rookies of the Year" and in 2000 "Members of the Year". The Duluth News-Tribune featured them with a front-page story and photograph in August of 1999. They were also featured in two other local publications the Duluth Budgeteer and Twin Ports People. On April 15th 2008 the "Guys" taped Episode 400 Duluth Mayor Don Ness was a guest and the Duluth News-Tribune chose to feature them on their front page once again. Today Jon & Ken tape the program at PACT's TV studio, often you'll find them at local sporting events and from time to time as media guests of our State's pro-sports teams. Some past guest's on the program include...Paul Molitor, Chuck Horton, Dennis Miller, Junior Lessard, Doug Swingley, Dan Gladden, Tom Hansen, Dick Cristman, "Dirty" Al Gallagher, Bill Walton, Scott Sandelin, Bert Blyleven, Ron Kittle, Jay Johnstone, Rick Rickert, Kevin Dubrow, Sean Hill, Wally Shaver, Kevin Pates, Terrell Brandon, Jason Manning, Don Ness, Brett Hull and many others.
