   About The Awake
The Awake are a fresh edgy rock band located in St. John’s, Newfoundland. They got together back in the fall of 2006 when Steve Tilley (bass) and Dave Brinston (Guitars) began jamming coming up with material for the new project. In a few jams, they had come up with several song ideas and started piecing the music together. Dave had spent the previous 4 or 5 years learning the ways of digital home recording in his basement, so they began recording the new riffs and taking advantage of today’s technology. The recording usually started with the bass or guitar track playing along to a click track. Once the bass and guitar was tracked, they would come up with a drum beat and digitally program it into the song as guider. This process allowed the two to listen to the song in a semi-completed state (still with no vocals). It allowed them to hear other guitar or bass parts and proved to be a great way to write songs. After tracking the music to their first tune, Steve and Dave asked long time friend Matt Carpenter to join the new project. He took a listen to the first song and within a couple of days had written a catchy melody and intriguing lyrics to the song. The trio was impressed with the process they had for writing songs and they wrote 2 more songs in the next month, Vegas and Heart of the Big Land.

After writing the first 3 songs, the band decided it was time to start gathering the remaining members, learn a few covers and rehearse for live shows. Drummer Glynn Power who had played with Steve in the rock band Silverseed for several years joined the group to round out the rhythm section and Jon Stacey, who also plays in several cover bands around town, was asked to join to share guitar duties with Dave. By the time the The Awake were ready to gig in July of 2007, they had an 11 song set consisting of 7 originals and 4 covers. They played a few shows in downtown St. John’s during the summer of 2007 and thought it was time record a demo album with the full lineup.

In September of 2007 recording for the demo began at 105 Studio’s (Dave’s Basement). By this time, they had written 3 more originals and an intro song which were all recorded for the demo. As time went on and the band got access to better recording gear, they made a decision that the “demo” was actually something more than a demo and went the extra mile to make it their debut Indie album. The album titled, A Necessary Means was released on November 28th, 2008 and the band have been going strong ever since playing and promoting it!

Here are some videos of their performance at this years East Coast Music Awards held in Corner Brook, NL.

.. Hi there The Awake first of all we'd like to say thanks for being our myspace pal. We wanted to make sure you knew the reason incase we suddenly vanish off of your friends list. The movement we've started for indie artists has grown significantly and consumes all of our time these days. We seldom sign into our myspace account and this is making several people believe that we are ignoring them. We are not ignoring anyone, we wanted everyone to know that. What we're doing has become so busy we just don't have the time for myspace any longer, so in all honesty we are probably going to just close our myspace account.

Many people wanted to use us in the future so if you were one of those people you can click the link below to visit our profile which wlil provide you with more information and also give you the link to our website! I wish you the best of luck in your music career. Thanks again for being our myspace pal.

And again , thanks for being our friend!..
