In early 2002, “The Awful Truth” was formed by existing members Tony Besson (lead guitars), Mike Lawrence (drums) and Ron Baker (bass/vocals). In 2005, looking to round out our vocal abilities and add a full time “front man”, David Field was brought on board. Dave had played with Tony in the past so we knew he’d fit in quickly. All four of us were members of successful bands back in the day when we actually had hair. At the time we decided to start this band, none of us had performed in front of an audience in almost a decade. The idea of forming the band was to have fun first (guys night out), play the music our friends would want to hear and add various current alternative as well as a few 80’s songs to stay true to our rock roots.
The musical concept was to take songs which everyone knew and twist them up a bit by creating our own version (alternative/punk style) of various songs. The feedback was better than expected for four guys “just having fun” and after only a few shows we realized we had found a niche. Not wanting to settle into a role of being just another cover band, the set list expanded and we came up with the perfect mix of new and "twisted" songs to keep the crowds coming back for more.
With our four individual styles and personalities, our set list now ranges from Cyndi Lauper to Metallica and includes more current songs from bands such as FallOut Boy and the All American Rejects. What really draws fans to an Awful Truth show is the wide variety of music and high energy performance put on each time we hit the stage. The most common response we hear at our shows is that they are so much fun. We make sure that everybody is dancing, having a great time and ready to stay all night long! No matter the diversity of the crowd, the shows always include something for everyone and a good time is certain to be had by all.
Catch the band at a venue near you soon...
