Over a cup of coffee, "la b." and "n.c." first conceived the idea for a project to be entitled "Art Noodles." The project quickly dissolved only to be reincarnated as a pair of color-explosive/fun-sized vegetables, born during a gallery reception. It was Spring 2005. It all happened very quickly - the catchy name and charisma of its creators rapidly flourished moral and spiritual support from people around them. Often during work hours - often not - the Baby Carrots would escape into an inspirational realm of creativity at an improvised studio to create their first fictional album "That's My Word". This is how songs like the smash-hit single title track; the inventive "I Wish I Had a Camera"; the moody "Are You Offended?"; the classic "Theme of the Baby Carrots"; and the unforgettable ballad "(I Think) They Wanna Separate Us" were born.
Absorbing them as primary influences, The Baby Carrots admire the skits and energy of Fannypack; the stage presence of Julieta Venegas; the melancholy of Arco Iris; the natural genius of Austin Wiggins and The Shaggs; and others (see influences on the left side of the page).
The Baby Carrots have only performed once in their lives - in summer 2005 they embarked their one-show 'Pool Time Summer 2005 Tour', taking part in a small festival where they also got the chance to do a mini-workshop, showing children how an accordion and a pocket-theremin operate. However, they have the next tour (working title "Baby Carrot Empire") already planned out - check back for updates; rumors say they will fly over the audience wearing orange tights... others mentioned a pool of ranch dressing!
The duo has a holiday CD project on hold due to record company conflicts. Stay tuned!
