The Backroom, Lantern Bar, Navan - Reviving Live Original Indie Rock Scene of Navan!!
The Backroom takes place in the small intimate room at the back of The Lantern Bar, Navan. The Backroom has been host to all types of artists from local singer/songwriter to national indie rock bands over the last year. Held on a fortnightly (sometimes weekly) basis, original bands and artists take to the stage to share their music for each session. The Backroom teamed up with E2 Music in Navan, who are always working away to promote new original local and national material.
“Success to date has been mainly down to the session goers who attend to hear the new and original music including all artists who have supported the backroom from day one.” - Sean Mulligan - Paul Clarke
Our original objective was to provide all types of original bands/artists with a venue to play and the people of Meath and Navan a new music outlet, a year on down the road, I think we have achieved this with plenty more to come!..
“The Majority of counties around Meath have live music / venue cultures from The Spirit Store in Louth to The Stables in Westmeath including all your Dublin Venues, so why not Meath?!” - Sean Mulligan - Paul Clarke
Due to demand, The Backroom have hosted tribute and metal nights with more to follow in the coming year but the main focus will always be original material. All gigs will be posted on the newly designed website http://www.thebackroomsessions.com
With The Backroom establishing itself nicely as a venue on the Irish circuit for touring bands and artists it is the place to be where the music lovers of Meath and Navan can catch all their favour acts.
Well known Acts who have rocked the Backroom on sold out occasions are Damian Dempsey, Declan O Rourke, Kila, The Coronas, The Flaws and Ham Sandwich, all due to returned in the near future!.
Some of the local acts who have had success to date in the Backroom are The Dolldrums, Simon Fagan, The Whatmans, Darwin Stars and Joy Booth..
Some of our Musician Quotes
"The Backroom have made it possible for us to reach our fans in Navan, before there was very little opportunity. The atmosphere is always amazing and each time we go back it gets better, we love it!" - The Coronas - Jim Lawless - Manager
"Musicians around Navan have a lot to thank the backroom for, in that it's given us a chance to get our music out there and gain experience instead of just thrashing out tunes to our mates at parties!" - Joy Booth - Local Artist
"For years, nearly as long as I can remember, there was a general sense of apathy to original live music in Navan. The Backroom have changed all that. There's a real buzz and sense of anticipation at every gig. Its hard to match the energy of the backroom anywhere else in the country. There's no corporate agenda so there's a real feeling of independence. The artists are made to feel welcome and the gig-goers appreciate that their getting new and diverse Irish music. Vive le Backroom!" - Paddy Smith - The Dolldrums - Local Band
"Within the last year i've seen the backroom grow from strength to strength, hosting bands who before this would never have considered playing navan. It's great for the town and the people of navan and i only hope it will encourage more young people to start playing music." - Simon Fagan - Local Artist
Customer / Session goer Quotes
"I think the backroom is a great base for local talent to be on show. It's well organised and has a fun and friendly atmosphere." - Barry Scullion, Navan, - Regular Session Goer
“Friday night at the Backroom dictate the “rhythm” of the rest of the weekend, great original music with a relaxed atmosphere, Navan needs this venue” – Andrew Snow, Navan – Regular Session Goer
“You couldn’t ask for a better place to fall off your wagon” – Tommy McBride, Navan – Regular Session Goer
"I'm originally from Dublin and would regularly go to gigs in Whelans, Eamon Dorans and Vicar Street. When I moved down to Navan I was dissapointed that there was no venue to see decent original live music. But thanks to the Backroom I now get to local and national bands. Fair play to the lads for bringing music to Navan. There is a great buzz and a great night out. Long may it continue." - David Murdiff - Regular Session Goer
Backroom organisers are always on the look out for new talent, be that bands or solo acoustic artists. If interested in playing please mail us and we'll get back asap....
