Influences
Are many..... the Baker Boys main inspiration is old timey music, that is to say music from 1920's and 1930's USA. The precursor of country music and closely linked to english and irish folk music. However, the Baker Boys do play tunes from other periods but in the old timey style...........................
The artists who have influenced us are many: On the first album we have covered tunes by the following great musicians: Pharoah Sanders, Dominic Behan, Arne Sølvberg and Øyvind Lyslo, Fiddlin' John Carson, John Hartford, Rich Del Grosso, Roky Erickson, Planxty, Da Costa Woltz's Southern Broadcasters, The Ray Brothers, The High Level Ranters, Ernest Stoneman's Dixie Mountaineers, The Byrds, The Chieftains, The Blue Sky Boys, Silas Sexton Steele and Turlough O'Carolan.
The Baker Boys are a father and son duo hailing from the rolling hills of Golders Green. Gavin Baker (Billy Mahonie, Jet Johnson and Meets Guitar) and Dave Baker enjoy playing country, folk and old time music on guitar and mandolin for their own amusement and for your pleasure.............................................................................................................................
The songs come from a wide range of musical sources and include early American country, Norwegian, English and Irish folk tunes, psychedelic folk rock and even sixties free jazz. However, American country music of the 1920s and 1930s remain the prime inspiration in their interpretations...............................................................................................................
The Baker Boys are men of constant sorrow and have recently presented their debut long player for everyone to enjoy thanks to those good ole boys at Unlabel Records..............................................................................................................................
"It's sweet & authentic sea shanties & old time music with strong. folk & country elements. 'Driftwood Boats' resonates with good feeling & soul from the off & really sounds like a sparkling gem of passionate, unpretentious trad music to hug the love of your life to." Says Norman Records........................................................................
