The Balconies formed in December of 2007 and quickly built up a reputation for their exciting, stripped down, high energy shows. Before long, they found themselves sharing bills with the likes of Mother Mother, Land of Talk, The Bicycles, Sister Suvi, and more. The Balconies’ debut album displays a unique brand of girl/boy-fronted, harmonious, epic pop rock and has already been met by an abundance of rave reviews.
What people are saying about The Balconies::
"The Balconies' self-titled debut is, quite simply, one of the best albums of the year."
-iheartmusic.net
"Their debut album encapsulates a brave form of ambition that most bands save up for their third or fourth album. This means that, in theory, their third or fourth album is going to be the greatest thing ever." -Bob Battams itsnotthebandihateitstheirfans.blogspot.com
“They’re a confident crew, these Balconies, and why not? All three are superb musicians and guitarist Jacquie Neville has got a most impressive set of pipes, with power and expressiveness to spare but thankfully uninterested in showy over-singing."
-Chromewaves.net
"The Balconies will keep any party dancing; with bass lines that lead, guitar licks to compliment and irregular beats that keep dancers on their toes."
-BridgingTheAtlantic.blogspot.com
“The Balconies manage to express an impressive blend of early punk rock, catchy melodies with occasional three-part vocal harmonies and plenty of guitar skrong freak outs… This is a promising outfit and definitely worth your time.” - Dave Allen, pamplemoose.com
“The Balconies are a power popping trio with a nice pedigree, tons of energy and the songwriting chops to make their self-titled, self released debut one to hear.”
-HeroHill.com
“The buzz they’ve generated since forming in late 2007 is very much justified; The Balconies is an impressive collection of songs written by all three members, perfectly executed. The guitar riffs jangle and rock, the vocals soar and soothe the soul, and the whole package grooves and shimmies like all get-out. “

"Though still relatively new to the scene, music lovers and critics alike seemed to have welcomed Ottawa’s The Balconies with open arms. Their debut self-titled album is packed with some of the best pop-rock I’ve heard in a while. If the latter portion of 2009’s success had to go to any band, it would be this one." -Melody, SingingLamb.ca

Nice write-up of The Horseshoe set in Now Magazine 'Earlier, Ottawa’s the Balconies turned out vigorous one-dimensional (but promising) power pop propelled by triple-threat guitarist/vocalist/frontwoman Jacquie Neville'

That was a great set at The Boat. A catchy mix of supercharged energy, buoyant rhythms, and spicy intensity, showcasing a knack for crafting artful, dynamic, pop-rock gems.
"i know why nobody gazes at the stars anymore it's because you cannot tell which ones have burned out, and which one's still shine on. there's nothing left to wish upon"
