Musical expression over the past fifteen years has become a subject somewhat void of true emotion. It has seemingly been substituted for venture capitalists bottom lines. Essex’ mission statement is to bring back the emotion and truthfulness that most bands were ripe with in previous years.
Essex is the brainchild of south shore natives Matt Johnson and Cory King. Brought together through local acts around the Boston area, their relationship has taken off quickly from inception. Matt Johnson has been playing music all his life, and has garnered some success around different projects he has done, Including one that scored an opening spot on Geffen owned nationally acclaimed recording artist Lifehouse’ tours. Cory King has played in local cover acts since age 13, and has attained an above average ability to play bass placing him in bands twice his age, and getting him respect from countless local big name bass players. Essex joins the idea of art through music, and true emotional live performance to marry what is quickly becoming the next big up and coming act to see. The raw feeling in Matt’s vocal performances echo the likes of Jeff Buckley, and feel just as real. Ryan Kerpess has been playing drums since the age of 4, his solid stucture is the backbone for Essex. Chris Henderson has been training classicaly on piano and violin for the majority of his life, and adds a different and unique sound to the music. Essex is the most serious, and dedicated group of musicians in the metro Boston area, and has persevered through over 8 years collectively to get to the point they are right now. They are the most promising new sound in quite some time.
