Washington DC based “Smart-Rock” bad boys HeLO (pronounced He-Low) stands out as a fresh and positive life line to those unfortunate souls adrift in a sea of rock and roll mediocrity. Formed in May of 2009, the band set out to write and perform original music that does not sound like everything else on the radio. HeLO strives to produce thoughtful, well-crafted songs with commercial viability but without the typical (or stereo-typical) constraints of a genre-based band format. HeLO’s material is upbeat, sonically pleasing and masterfully dynamic. HeLO’s material (at its core) exists in the Alt/Indie genre, but their music is so much more. HeLO sprinkles indie-rock, shoe-gaze, post-punk, americana and beatle-esque flavors into their sound. These flavors coupled with thoughtful, insightful and often sarcastic lyrics make for a delicious combination. Whether they succeed or fail, is beside the point. What matters is, they like it (and they hope you do too).
HeLO’s live performance is immaculately tight and explodes with positive energy. The band lathers up their audiences with infectious hooks and lush guitar sounds, then slathers on beautiful three part harmonies for good measure. The guys are suckers for dynamic gut-wrenching arrangements, each song a roller coaster ride and each show a blissful day at a rock and roll theme park.
Songs on our current MySpace playlist (and in HeLO’s live set) Blackhole, Radiation Star, The Goodbye, Who You Know & KaTie Complicated are tracks culled from John’s previous band The Device. The Device consisted of: Arthur Scott, Chuck Andrada, Eric Vislay, and John Ireland. HeLO is hard at work recording new songs. We have ten songs and are hoping to finish by August 2009. Check back periodically for new song posts and to find out when HeLO is coming to a town near you!
