NEW CD REVIEWS!!!

...Really good mid tempo crunchy power pop tunes akin to early Cheap Trick or our old friend the Kinks...The band are not afraid to hop on their noise pedals but don't forsake bluster for melody. "Yesterday's Coming" is pure Beatles (a bit more rockin' tho) while "Lightning Bugs" sounds like those elder statesmen, Teenage Fanclub. Bravo boys! --- DAGGER Magazine

As soon as I saw on the one-sheet that main Moon man Mark Poole had played with the stellar Boys From Nowhere, I was curious to hear his band. Their noisy (yet tuneful) garage-psych doesn't disappoint. These West Virginia home recordings are warm and punkily aggressive, crossing Anglophile influences with a loping country ease. (Kim Cooper) --- SCRAM Magazine

This long-running West Virginian band plays a spirited sort of party pop/bar rock that recalls Young Fresh Fellows. Lots of big hooks and open chords and catchy vocal melodies, all coming together to form fun, rocking tunes. Liberal use of cowbell, hand claps, and tambourine just add to the good times. I love this stuff. (JC) --- PUNK PLANET

...Their influences include the usuals like the Kinks and The Beatles, but their pesentation has more of a louder but still melodic - indie rock bent, sounding somewhat like Honeyrider and Toothpaste 2000, filtered through a bit of Husker Du. I know, it sounds a bit strange, but believe me - it works! In addition to the loud and punchy guitars, you'll find a tight rhythm section and some organ to assist the retro - pop part of the sound.... This is the third album from this group from West Virginia, and if their first two are anything like this, I've got to seek them out. (Mix tape quotient = 11/12) --- INDIE PAGES

West Virgina's rocking quartet Moon culls retro influences from the Kinks and The Beatles and fuels them with a modern punch that toys with pop punk. "Anything At All" displays great harmony vocals reminicent of John and Paul, another welcome dimension. The vibe is edgy but contagious in a comforting way, with plenty of bold guitar riffs. --- MUSIC MORSELS (Serge Entertainment Group)

Why is Moon so alluring? Well, to my ear, Moon has a sound reminiscent of the Beatles, mixed with a dash of The Kinks and The Monkees. Perhaps that's why this indie band has so much appeal. Keep in mind that Moon does perform live, you might want check their "flight logs" to see if they are coming to a city near you, since I can only imagine that they would put on a great live show. Moon's CD "Flight Logs" is a clear winner, and well worth a listen for those who lived through the 60's, or for those who want a flavor of the 60's played with twenty first century flair. -- THE HERE AND THERE

Moon has an affinity for vintage rock and roll. From the cleverly placed "stereo" on the cover, to the numerous pictures of vintage amplifiers and guitars, it's not hard to guess that these guys listened to bands like the Byrds or The Beatles. However, while their influences may seem obvious, Moon takes their music in at least somewhat of a new direction. On the opening track "Flight Logs" a 60's pop riff gets buried underneath fuzzed out guitars more reminiscent of late American Punk than the British invasion. The combination works, at least for most of the tracks. Some cuts, like the song "Featherweight" never really take off and on the track "Faith Healers", the weight of fuzzed guitars obscure the songs core. However, tracks like Yesterday's Coming" a feisty and ecstatic rock number outweigh the bands missteps. Unlike many revivalist bands, like Jet, Moon manages to both utilize their influences and move beyond them, creating an energetic and enjoyable, if slightly spotty album. -- THE CONFABULATORS ARCHIVE

BAND BIO:
Moon is a rock and roll band based in Morgantown WV. Formed in 1989 by Mark Poole. Prior to forming Moon, Mark Poole and Bill Sheeder played together in the long running WV band 63 Eyes. Poole also played lead guitar on some of the legendary 45's by Mick Divvens' Boys From Nowhere in the late 80's. Moon's first lp/cd came out on Skyclad Records in 1990. Dilligent about the punk rock DIY work ethic, the band put together their own label/studio (Zone 8 Recording) around 1994 where they recorded their next two cd's "Get It Through Your Heart" and most recently "Flight Logs". The band is currently writing/recording songs for a new album.

O.K. Seven degrees of seperation part two...I'm sitting in a bar in Frederick,MD watching the WVU game and cheering with this stranger who says who grew up in Morgantown and we went to school at WVU at the same time and I dropped your name and he said he knew and played with you. His name is Owen(I've already forgotten his last name) and he has some connection to 63 Eyes as well. Good guy and says he teaches school here in Frederick as well. What a coinky-dink, heh? Can you identify this person for 1,000, Alex Trebek?

I don't know what you're talking about, Billy doesn't look anything like Lenny Kravitz.

I'm supposed to be in the new Kevin Smith movie, and thought it would be good idea to get them a comp. CD or local stuff. Is it OK if I add some of your music to it? Let me know, either way. Hope all is rockin' out your way.
