NINE is a collection of talents from the Southeast Michigan area. The rhythm section is comprised of Tim Stelma on Guitar, Donnie Burton on Bass, AJ Bedikian ..s and Clint Sabon, the drummer and leader of the band. Each player has at least 20 years of playing time with various bands throughout the area. Tight and dynamic, this rhythm section is a strong background for the highly energetic horn section but is also comfortable on their own as a four piece power band.
The horn section is four of the hottest players around. Matt Martinez on the Trombone, Luther Bird on the Trumpet, Chris Carmody on various saxes and Tim Holmes also on various saxes as well as flute. All players help out with percussion throughout the night. These guys have nearly a century of combined playing time between them. They have each played in big band, jazz combos, musicals, avante garde and rock groups throughout their careers. This wide range gives them the ability to play any style NINE wishes to play. From laid back background sounds to the heavy, in your face, horn sounds of Chicago and Tower of Power, these guys play it flawlessly. The horn section alone is worth the price of admission.
Then, topping these guys off, are lead singers Mike Stelma and Sarah D'Angelo. Both are great frontpeople with screaming pipes. Mike also plays percussion and both supply background vocals when needed. Their energy puts the icing on the cake for the band. Sarah, being a recent addition to the band, gives the band a brand new dynamic that only a female front woman can provide.
Come and check NINE out, you will hear songs you love and know & songs you loved and forgot about. All done by a group of people that are obviously having fun with what they are doing. Look for the band this summer at your local festival and if they aren't there talk to your festival coordinators about having NINE make the festival one to remember.
