Patina is defined in The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language as the sheen on any surface, produced by age and use. Similarly, the band Patina, a dynamic 5 piece from Portland, Oregon, plays music that is structured on the rich history of American music with a modern sheen. Over the past three years Patina has developed an inimitable chemistry and honed their craft emphasizing deft song writing, rich harmonies, and superb musicianship. Often compared to The Band, Wilco, The Grateful Dead, Patina’s songs are both familiar and unique; as comfortable as your favorite jeans.
On their independently released debut album, Sugar For The Salty Seas, the band effortlessly shifts from Motown inspired boogie ("Anna, We've Got The Shakes") to tender ballad ("Rose Petals") to anthemic sing-along ("Back To The Well") to raucous honky-tonk ("Lightning Bug Blues"). Featuring diverse instrumentation including mandolins, dobros, and harmonicas, each song is distinct, yet the set coheres as joyous trip through classic Americana with a contemporary twist.
Well I moved from Portland back to Tucson. :( Thats the reason I didn't go to your guy's cd release show. But I'm sure it went well. The songs here on Myspace sound good. If you want to send me a cd, I would love to have it.
