   About Sauce
"Listening to the wild textures and melodies of Sauce is extremely liberating... their live show caused mass dancing and even a few seizures." - Vassar College

"The Sauce elicit feelings and images of spelunking, cave exploration, detectives and mysterious beauty" - New York Press

"A seamless blend of live instruments, electronics, and deep grooves." - Greenpoint Williamsburg Gazette

"Jazz What? These guys are virtuostic." -imposemagazine.com

The Brooklyn-based band Sauce is not merely a "dance band." It tickles and troubles the ear with its strong melodies, freewheeling whimsy, shrewd covers, anything-goes improvisation, and head-nodding grooves which all driven by original tweaked-out beats.

The band's origins begin at cellist Greg "Cosmo D"'s experiments in live electronic music. He wanted to merge his cello playing and improvising with grooves and beats he was hearing from labels like Warp, FFRR, and Ninja Tune and bands/electronic acts like Daedelus, Daft Punk and Matmos. On the other hand, Sauce also embraces composition, as its songs take inspiration from the sonic journeys of Amon Tobin, Shadow, Madlib and RJD2.

In addition, members of the band come from a wide variety of different backgrounds. Cellist and founder Cosmo D has a strong classical-music foundation, but his experience as an improviser has led him to play with some incredible jazz and New York "Downtown" musicians. Bassist Josh Myers oozes his creamy sound from a place of funk and soul, but he's equally at home ruining it awesomely due to his own knack for electronics. Guitarist Lily Maase has a shady Texan punk-rocker past, but can play as sweetly as Wes Montgomery. Finally, sax player Mike Kammers has vintage jazz & big band tradition coursing through his digits, but isn't afraid to squelch and scream when the music starts to get sweaty.

Drawing inspiration from the aforementioned artists and influences and seamlessly merging them with the the geographically immediacy of Brooklyn's improv and electronic music scenes is Sauce's ultimate modus operandi.
