Bio
“Tenure” is the culmination of ten years of creating, experimenting and recording together. Snack!'s fourth full length release was recorded and filmed live in front of an audience of 300 at the beautiful, state of the art, King Street Theatre in Kitchener. The live DVD and CD package documents snack!'s improvisational material and also the best of their catalogue of songs. Snack!'s live show could best be described as layers of Latin and Eastern melodies that create textures that weave through the groove-based songs only to end in unexpected places. Focus on combining different genres and instrumentation within each song is a key ingredient to how snack! creates their arrangements and improvisations. Snack!'s unique “globally-infused textural groove-rock” combines the influences and heritage of each musician. Their live performances focus on exploring and expanding on the boundaries of these genres within each song's structure to take the listener on a trip around the world within one piece.
The Show and Workshops
To celebrate the release of the project, we are having a DVD/CD release party & concert on Sunday, June 10 at the Gig Theatre in Kitchener. The venue is a seated theatre, suitable (and comfortable) for all ages. We will be running an improvisation workshop during the day for anyone who is interested in attending. The workshop will be free for those who purchase a ticket for the release party that night and the DVD/CD (a total of $25). A large part of what we do as a band focuses on improvising, but not in the typical sense. Our improv is not based on trading solos, but instead, creating textures, developing motifs, rhythms and morphing and combining different musical genres. This is a great chance for students of all levels and musical influences to learn some different ways to view improvising and communicate musically within a band setting. The workshop will be broken into sections each focusing on one of the main elements of our approach.
1. Rhythmic development – partly a percussion workshop, but also how an improv can develop on a rhythmic level more than on a harmonic or melodic level where the groove is the most important element. During this section we will also have an MC sit in to help demonstrate how to accompany spoken word and hip hop.
2. Ambient improve – creating textures to help move an improv forward and the use of space and dynamics
3. The use of themes and motifs in improv – we will be exploring the use of theme and variation in improv
4. Stylistic improv and the fusion of different styles

Hola, My name is Derek De Boer and I am lead vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, promotions and publicity for the rock/comedy extravaganza that is Rico Sanchez; The Greatest Band on Earth. We are from Elora, Ontario, Canada and to date, have been 100% independent. Throughout our nine year career, we have written, recorded and produced 7 albums. Of which, we have independently distributed a total of over 10,000 copies. Our most recent; ‘16 Classics by the Greatest Band on Earth’ is a ‘best of 1999-2007' collection. It has secured us sold out shows at every rock venue in our surrounding area, two co-headlining ventures in Toronto (Roots music festival Seneca stage & a CD release party at Clinton’s Tavern w/ Seneca College’s Independent Music Production program of which, I am a graduate) and regular rotation airplay on internet radio @ headcaseradio. com. Though we have thoroughly enjoyed our local cult status, we want to take this to the next level. You are one of the over 1000 people in our online network and, we humbly request your help. Our myspace page (www. myspace. com/rrricosanchez) currently serves as our official EPK, it includes all photos and singles from ‘16 Classics..’ and a short bio. If you are affiliated with a record company, tour/concert promotions or a music festival; please consider this our official application for your services. If you are a band, artist or other who saw the letter; please forward this to anyone who may be able to help our cause and/or feel free to add us as a myspace friend and join our facebook group http://www. facebook. com/group. php?gid=2231592889. Please feel free to direct any questions or responses to our requests to our preferred contact medium: space-cheese@hotmail.com . Hi there snack! first of all we'd like to say thanks for being our myspace pal. We wanted to make sure you knew the reason incase we suddenly vanish off of your friends list. The movement we've started for indie artists has grown significantly and consumes all of our time these days. We seldom sign into our myspace account and this is making several people believe that we are ignoring them. We are not ignoring anyone, we wanted everyone to know that. What we're doing has become so busy we just don't have the time for myspace any longer, so in all honesty we are probably going to just close our myspace account.
Many people wanted to use us in the future so if you were one of those people make sure you bookmark the link below so that in the event that we do close our myspace account you won't lose contact with us. I wish you the best of luck in your music career. Thanks again for being our myspace pal.
We have also built a pretty big music community which you are welcome to join if you want to meet new artists like yourself!

We’re trying to build the email list for our KITCHENER/ WATERLOO/ CAMBRIDGE email weekly . You can subscribe from the website, let your friends know and promote your shows in our calendar.
i pre-oredered a cd the night you guys recorded your live album, but i havent got it yet and i was wondering if i could listen to it, for it was amazing the first time.
The Worldview website just launched this week and we're trying to get as many people as possible to be part of the word of mouth campaign. The new site is a coalition of child sponsorship organizations and 16 international bands and singer/songwriters united against child poverty.
You can check out the site at worldview.ca (there are links from my page) and if you think it's worthwhile, tell your friends. There are also lots of tools on the “get involved” page to help you spread the word.
Some of the poorest children on the planet are counting on us to pull this off. Please do what you can.
