The Band That Fell to Earth lighted up stages around New Orleans for more than two years before Hurricane Katrina scattered its members.
Gambit Magazine hailed the band's "refreshing, ... no-nonsense rock 'n' roll." Offbeat magazine described the group's sound as "classic, pop-inflected indie rock," and live shows highlighted the band's growing experimentation with different sonic styles and textures. The independent EP "Greetings from the Land of Carbon" featured five of The Band That Fell to Earth's more straight-ahead rock songs.
The group played many venues around New Orleans, including Tipitina's, the Howlin' Wolf, Lounge Lizards, Banks Street Bar and Lucky's, and even hit the stage in Las Vegas as part of an independent-music festival. "Let's just say what happened in Vegas stays in Vegas," singer Dave Baker says, "but we did find out that Billy can't bowl worth a damn."
The Band That Fell to Earth likely has the unenviable distinction of being the last music act to perform in the city of New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina devastated the city last fall, playing a 2 a.m. show at Checkpoint Charlie's on Sunday, Aug. 28.
"We had no idea it would turn out to be our last show, but in retrospect it was a fitting finale, pure rock and roll," Baker recalls with a smile. "The whole city was boarded up and eerily empty, but we rocked on with reckless abandon. And I'll always remember a whacked-out older man who was literally writhing around on the floor in front of the stage, on his stomach, as we ripped into a cover of Devo's 'Mongoloid.' "

Amazing: another man, another band, another group of really hot chicks amassed in one Friend Group. It never fails to impress me, but then I'm easily titillated.
