The Bang is a Northern Virginia based band that can be classified as vintage rock combined with a wide range of genres. The band was formed in the summer of 2005 by guitarists John Lee and Anthony Pirog. The band started as a duo where the two guitarists would write songs after drinking at bars. Soon after vocalist Billy Triplett, who Anthony Pirog played with in a local bar band, was brought into the mix to help collaborate in the song writing process. The three quickly assembled a repertoire of original material. It was Billy that came up with the name of the band. John Lee brought in Larry Ferguson after being introduced to him while playing with The Dan Roberts Trio. Janel Leppin, a cellist and a long time collaborator with John and Anthony, was brought in on bass to complete the line up. The members of The Bang each brought in a wide variety of influences including jazz, classical, country, blues, world music, and avant garde, that when combined creates a form of rock that incorporates roots music, electronic music, improvisation, and intricately composed writing.

Been hearing some crazy local music, drinking yak butter tea, hanging out with Aussies and trying to spot Everest while in Tibet. Wish I had some Bang to play for everyone... MISS YOU ALL!!!
The Bang set at Velvet Lounge last week was INSANE! The Bang far surpasses ear-candy, it's like ear-heroin. Can't wait till the Wonderland show... Cheers!
