“I only date boys with tattoos – We Jerkin’, We Jerkin’”

That’s one of the hottest hooks catching fire about the underground dance craze, called “Jerkin’.” Officially titled, “We Jerkin’,” the single is performed by Los Angeles-based female duo the Bangz, made up of members Jenice Portlock aka Sabi and Korttney Elliott aka Ella Ann.

“We Jerkin’” is amassing some major airplay thanks to KPWR-FM (Power 106), and DJ Felli Fel who jumped immediately on the song. The single is rapidly generating hits by the day through various viral videos on YouTube and MySpace. The Jerk movement began on the West Coast—somewhere between the SF/Oakland Bay Area and Southern California—and is gradually spreading all over. There are tons of teens that belong to Jerk squads and are putting their twists on the dance, while a handful of artists have provided a soundtrack for the Jerk movement such as the New Boyz with their signature song, “You’re A Jerk,” Ya Boy f/Goon Squad “What’s Jerkin’,” and Pink Dollars “Never Hungry,” along with a host of others. The Bangz’ celebration of “Jerkin’” is perhaps more commercially accessible with its heavyinfectious beat, hypnotic baseline and radio-ready hook, while the vocals are sexy, a bit quirky and chock full of attitude. The song was produced by the Co-Stars (J Holiday, Jordin Sparks, Fantasia) and written by the songwriting team of the Handle Bars. Ella Ann is a member of the Handle Bars, while Sabi had a working relationship with the Co-Stars. It was practically inevitable that the two young ladies would pair up. Everything continues to move at rapid pace for the Bangz as their single “We Jerkin’” gains more momentum. Several labels have expressed interest in signing the girls. Yet, in the meantime they continue to promote and perform via an extensive club tour throughout California—and are collaborating with the Handle Bars, the Co-Stars and other producers on songs for their debut album to be released soon.
