GARAGE, GARAGE, PSYCHEDELIC, 60'S POP SOUNDS, AND GARAGE AGAIN!
That's what enlighten the Barbara Farmers in any step they take to create or cover music! Time after time, the orientation is gettin' more and more focused to over specific sounds, just like freakbeat, shake, folk punk, new england etc. , but in their hearts the main beat is to bring out through the best way the can sounds that they like to listen to and get fixed by!
At the beginning of 2006, in the village Barbara, at the north coast of Euboea, two farmers, Paul and Jim, started jammin' and playin' garage and surf sounds throughout their guitars! At the same time, another one, Nick started learning how to play bass and tried to join them! Some months later, and after a long(?) time of rehearsals and playing thought that the time had come to start looking for a drummer! Nick had deals with a guy named John, nicknamed Hanuman! Despite that deal, the drummer that joined the band was another John, known by Jim from the school! Those adventurous times, the named anymore Barbara Farmers used to act at school parties, playing on beaches or at house gardens and balcons! Their tracklist included garage sixties or revival, surf, ska covers(yeah, it's real!) and some punks! After the summer, the band became quintet, after Jim's (Dizzy) coming! It was the time for them to walk on and, after several rehearsals at AUNT ATHANASIA's home, their tracklist was getting more and more narrow, focused in pure garage and 60's psych stuff and started having some live acts with bands such as The Sick Rose, The Cavemen, The Frantic V etc. During the spring of 2007, John left the band due to army duties and got replaced by Hanuman!
Moreover the guys had worked and made their own home at Paul's underground cellar! Time was going by, the farmers kept acting and supporting bands like The Frank Pop Ensemble, The Vietnam Veterans and, suddenly, motherland called Jim for army service! It was a hard time. Anyway, after a live in Barbara with The B-Sides and DJ SET by The BELLE VUE gurus, in an absolutely celebratin' atmosphere, Jim greeted his fellows and left for this while! After this, the other ones decided that it was a big opportunity to utilise that period refining their sound! Moreover and in a loss of appearances (they played just once, as a trio, for the panhellenian vespa meeting, in Aidipsos), they started playing beside the Farmers in an thoroughly experimental way, jazz, soul etc., for their own pleasure, of course! Currently, the band is still alive and active, still waiting for Jim to start again from the point they stopped! The first step has come true, after a Jim's clearance when the Barbara Farmers played alive with the Moving Sounds from Sweden and GDU, for STOP THE CLOCK WEEKENDER in January 2009! So, now, you have to beware because The Barbara Farmers are BACK!!!
