"The Barrens, four men and one woman named Debbie Chou, have created such an original and refreshing sound it gives me a sugar high. I can’t stress it enough how excited I am about this group."
-Bearcast Radio
We started around 2004 in Upstate NY, then known as Burn the Koalas. Quickly added a 4th member, changed our name, eventually moved to NYC (where most of the band grew up.) Played a bunch of shows, recorded a couple of demos, worked with engineer extraordinaire Greg Gordon (Walkmen, Oasis, Public Enemy) Recorded an as of yet unreleased EP with indie rock pioneer and noisy genius John Schmersal (Brainiac, Enon) and established ourselves in the NYC scene. Produced 2 revolutionary podcasts, (mixing and blending all existing and unreleased material into extended 'mixtape podcasts) added a 5th member about a year ago, now finally complete. First EP as a 5 piece, "Worming" is now available.
