You may not remember this, but the summer of 2000 was a sad period in music history. For this was the time that The Bash Street Band, a rock and blues legend for fifteen years, around the hard gritty pubs of London in particularly the East End, finally split. Understandably, rock fans throughout the UK dressed in black that summer as a mark of respect and most of them are still dressing the same even now.
Jim Lafferty, singer (often mistaken for Axl Roses'.. Dad) finally hung up his bandana and settled down in Clacton on Sea. Jon Plant, virtuoso guitarist (and don't he know it), took the opportunity to get back to his roots of the cotton fields of Orpington, Kent, and join a blues band. Keith Kelsey, drummer, moved to East Sussex and joined a soul band and Jim Holmes the bass player, decided to stop playing and concentrate on his video and theatrical production company...which was starting to take off.
Three and a half years later and Jim Holmes was sitting in his office pulling his hair out because another bloody actor was giving him stress on one of his productions (which was already over budget) and the phone rang, it was Jon Plant.
...''Do you fancy getting the band back together?''.... he said.
As it had happened Jim had just watched a re-run of the 'Blues Brothers' on TV the night before and was 'well up for it'.
....''Yes''.... he said, ....''get me away from these bloody actors''.....
The Bash Street Band was reborn!
....''What about a singer?''.... Jim exclaimed, knowing Jim Lafferty would not be available.
....''that's the thing''.... said Jon excitedly, ....''I've found a young singer from Bromley, his name is Kristian Baker. He's big, he's powerful, he has a brilliant voice and he's cheap!....
....''Cheap''.... said Jim ecstatically, ....''he sounds perfect!''....
Unbelievably before Jon had a chance to call the drummer, the phone rang.
...''Hello'' a little voice said on the other end, ...it's Keith, i've got a couple of rock and blues gigs going on in East Sussex, do you think The Bash Street Band would be up for doing it?''........a coincidence or fate you may ask!
The rest, as they say, is history. The Bash Street Band has been back on the road for some time, playing hot blues and putting their stamp on some classic hard and heavy rock covers, and it had been phenomenal!
Back in the old days Jon, Jim and Keith gigged with some of the biggest bands around and this experience really shows in their playing.
With Kristian Bakers outstanding voice at the front, supported by Keith's hard rocky, perfectly pitched harmony vocals, Jim and Keith's incredibly tight and solid rhythm section at the back and, of course, Jon's brilliant guitar work, this is definitely not a band to be missed
