THE BASKETHOUSE has seen many incarnations. The terms comes from the baskethouses in NYC in the 60s and 70s--those folk shows in NYC's Greenwich Village where artists played for whatever cash was thrown in the basket. Drew Brody heard the term discussed in the Bob Dylan Documentary No Direction Home, which inspired him to start a weekly acoustic folk series at the Bitter End in NYC in 2006 and 2007. It turned into a Song-a-Week podcast with 12 songwriters, writing a song a week for 6 months. And now, with Baskethouse Records, we've got an internet street fair for the Baskethouse community of artists to sell our wares. No middlemen here, so you can feel great about contributing!
The Baskethouse, in all it's forms, is about encouraging talented, emerging songwriters who have something to say.
we was all missin' you something terrible last night, so everyone chipped in and we got you a podcast.
We're kind of getting the hang of it and this one is pretty good. we made this one the CMJ Episode and featured the 10 best bands you probably missed (and maybe ain't heard of yet).

Wow... I just watched the Loving in Virginia thing that the kid put up on YouTube, and I can't decide what part of it scares me the most. The fact that the Supreme Court is made up of the Village People, the Hulk and a penguin is worrisome... Paris Hilton? Can't figure out what she's in there for... I could go on, but I will say that the open shirt on the plastic Drew was entertaining!!
Thanks for letting me come out and play last night with some amazing musicians. You are truly gifted - a beautiful, genuine sound and a great person. I will try and make it out to as many nights of this as I can. Talk to you soon.
Thanks for having me perform! What a great experience! I am so blessed to have shared the stage with so much talent. I have to say that I loved CT Thomas' cover of Hallelujah! So beautiful and so inspiring. And the Jody Shelton Band rocks!!! You go boys!
Drew- you just keep the music flowing! For those who have not seen a show yet, please come and support!!
