I started to produce in 1999. Since I..m able to think, music was a very big part of my life. In my childhood times I used to play drums on my grandmother..s buckets in her kitchen. Everyone was really excited about that :). At the age of eight I was nagging at my parents to buy me a guitar (already in 1981 I was good with going on someone..s nerves), so after a week and a half I held it in my hands: my first guitar - I still have it today and it still works! The first disappointment was already on its way. Holding a guitar in your hands doesn..t make you a rockstar!! Regularly on Tuesday and Thursday 6 pm I went to the local music school to learn some new cchords....or try to learn some new chords. Until today I am not able to read notes properly (I admit). Every year was the "big day", your parents, family and whoever was close to you was invited to see what you got...The "Concert Evening". I remember all of us (sweating the hell out of ourselves) never played that wrong as on that special day (what was normal as we heard later on that evening)...but it was fun anyways...
Years went by and at the age of 14 two friends of mine (Markus Enderlein and Thomas Wildenauer) and me found a band (a rockband, what else did you expect???). We were supported by one of our teachers (who played drums in a local very known band). He gave us tips, helped us getting along and (what was the most important part of it all) fought, that we could have our exercise room in (!) school, that was COOL! We started out great, writing our own songs, we had the right equipment, and we had a great drummer, what more could you wish for?? We played like this for three years: Markus Enderlein (vocals), Alexander Franz (Lead guitar), Juergen Wuerth (Lead/Rhythm Guitar), Thomas Wildenauer (Bass) and Mario Wild (Drums). Our musical tastes were different, but we had a common basic. Markus was a lot into bands like ELO, YES, CCR,..., Alex..s fave was Guns N Roses, for myself I prefered bands like Iron Maiden, Helloween, Running Wild, but also Ratt, Poison, Mötley Crüe, Thomas was a big fan of Anthrax, Sodom and Mario was into classic rock. After a few gigs we had (audiences differed), Mario and Alex were the ones, who wanted to play cover songs to get "famous", that was the first real argument we had to solve, so we compromised on playing 50/50...To be honest, I don..t really know, how this all went out, but the band split up that time.....it was time for....
My metamorphose from Rock to Electronica
It was during the week, I guess wednesday to thursday night, I watched "Headbanger..s Ball" on MTV, someday in 1991. After the show there was a video from a band called "The KLF" - "Last Train To Trancentral", which left me with my eyes jumping out my face and my chin breaking through the table surface. I LIKED THIS. This band started to impress me, and the more I heard, the more I wanted to know about them. Those days was no internet and living in a small village didn..t really make it easier to get informations about that kind of music (since the neighbourhood listened to german pop and german "folk" music). I went by car to the next city and bought me a few 12"es of The KLF (3 a.m. eternal, What time is love and Last Train To Trancentral). I started to get interested in this kind of music. Kraftwerk, Daft Punk....My rock times were (slowly but surely) gone.
I started to DJ that time and became resident in 2 local clubs (one friday, one saturday). 3 years later the second cclub was mine for the weekend. I did this for around 10 years and then played only on bookings. In 1999 I got sick and tired of playing tracks, that other people produced. I wanted to produce on my own. That..s how it came to buying me a copy of Steinberg Cubase VST/32 in 1999. I had no idea, how to get one tone out of this program, after 3 weeks I did it. I..m autodidact with this. Before Cubase I used Fruity Loops, and before Fruity Loops it began on a Sony Playstation 1 with the program "Music 2000" by Codemasters...I guess, I did it the hard way....
In 2003 I bought me Propellerheads Reason 2.0, after I heard the album "Reasons" by Alexander Kowalski, Dennis DeSantis and Diego Hostettler (released on Kanzleramt, Berlin). This sound made me go nuts...until today....They produced the whole album, just using Reason. Today Reason is the "heart" of my studio, 95% of what I do happens in Reason.
