   About The Bearded

"There was much merriment at this Bearded performance, because the Bearded ones always have that effect on their audience. The crowd included many excellent local musicians, hippie girls dancing together, and even one woman who determinedly walked up to the stage, lifted her t-shirt and flashed her breasts at the band (to Matt Morelock, in particular). Even local writer, scenester and gad about, Jack (who had the vendaloo?) Rentfro had left his farm and was holding court at the Corner Lounge." Debra Dylan- Knoxville 520.com

Birthed from the loins of Kyle Campbell's imagination and smacked to life by a great rhythm and string band, The Bearded took its first breath on the WDVX Blue Plate Special in January 2005. The original seeds for The Bearded were planted years earlier on a front porch in Knoxville,TN. Years of pickin' on the porch turned these guys from an unkempt bunch of hobos into an unkempt bunch of musical hobos.

"Call The Bearded what you will — a jug band, a string band, an Old Time band or a combination of all three. Or maybe just a bunch of hairy dudes making noise — it matters not. The songs rise up from whatever stage the band takes like thick fog off the nearby mountains, calling to mind fireside fiddle-fests and barn-dance flatfoot contests in the hills and hollers of yesteryear." Steve Wildsmith -Maryville Daily Times..

Sweet Hollywaiians

Sweet Hollywaiians

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

I realized i haven't yet responded, but your comment a while back delighted me! I like the idea of having my name spoken back home :). I didn't catch 'several shots' at said time but i pop your cd in quite often, don't you worry. I'll be back that way for a little visit in september, as rhythm & roots falls on my birthday this year. Will ya'll be there? If not, I'm bound to catch you at home. Take care :)
