HOT CHOCOLATE
SHE SLIPS INTO THE ROOM SO SMOOTH AND SULTRY
HER NARROW EYES SLIDING FROM SIDE TO SIDE
HER RUBY LIPS ARE TEPID AND SYRUPY
AND HER SKIN IS DARK AND SLEEK AS THE SKY
SHE IS HOT CHOCOLATE
SENSUOUS, SMOOTH AND SOFT
SHE IS HOT CHOCOLATE
AN EBONY BROWN BROTH
THE SOOTHING AROMA OF HER STUNNING PRESCENCE
BRINGS OUT VIBRANT CAFE' AU LAIT EMOTIONS
THE SILKY GLOW OF HER STEAMY ESSENCE
POURS ENCHANTING AMBER LOVE POTIONS
SHE IS HOT CHOCOLATE
RICH, DARK AND WARM
SHE IS HOT CHOCOLATE
IN EXOTIC SUCCULENT FORM
HER WAFTING MOVEMENTS ARE TASTED BY ALL EYES
HER SOFT VOICE LICKED IN BY YEARNING YIELDING EARS
WHO IS THIS WOMAN THAT NO MAN CAN DENY
HOT CHOCOLATE, WHOSE LOVE AROUSES INNER FEARS

ABOUT THE BOOK
"LOVE,IS, THE BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMAN" is a tribute to all Black Women. It is my praise and trophy to the strong independent women of color that I've met and yet to meet. The good, the bad , the indifferent. I hope my poems reflects and mirrors all the variety of women I admire and gain strength from.
This collection of poetry is my way of showing the greatest appreciation of our Beautiful Black Women. The positive and the not-so positive shades of their personalities;their ever-changing moods which I find so overwhelmingly attractive.
So, to their determined Spirit I dedicate this book---Queens All!!
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Vernon J. Davis jr. has been writing poetry since the early seventies. He was first inspired by Langston Hughes''s poem "Impasse", which started his journey and adventure into the world of poetry and the spoken word.
Vernon''s very first published poem,"Beautiful Black Woman"(the basis for this book) came out in 1978 in a magazine called Black Forum. More poetry followed in other magazines like SoulWord and Dawn, a magazine supplement to the Los Angeles Sentinel, an African-American newspaper.
Mr. Davis has also taught Creative Writing and recited his poetry in talent shows, Church gatherings and open-mike forums. He is still inspired by and in awe of Langston Hughes, Nikki Giovanni and Maya Angelou. His Idols.
His creative collection of Love poems,"Love,is, the Beautiful Black Woman" is his 1st book. Vernon's 2nd Book of Poetry--"The Emosewa Woman"--is due out late 2009.

Prayer For A Friend

I sent a prayer to God today
Because you are my friend.
I asked that He bring your problems
Abruptly to an end.
I prayed for resolution,
And for all your trials to cease.
But most of all, oh friend of mine,
I asked for God to bring you peace.

Sometimes in life, we just need someone who believes that we can. And more importantly, we must have the guts to believe we can. Yes, We sometimes get knocked down by our circumstances and situations, people run off and the thing that we want does not give the impression to want us. But it is in those times when all hope is gone that our understanding must raise its beautiful head. We can make it. It may not be easy, fast or rational but in the blink of an eye or a snap of our fingers, things can turn around.
